How to determine what enging you have???

I'm ordering my engine today from Osaka JDM Motors...but how do I tell if they sent me a S5 and not an S4??? I understand that an S$ is 86-88 and S5 is 89-91 id that correct?? I already ordered a s5 JDM ECU and a S5 wiring harnes (US) so I want to make sure everything matches up...deos it even matter??? has anyone used them before???

^ You can list another 100 differences, but if you don't specify what the differences are (i.e. how is the TPS sensor different), it won't help much. Not trying to be an ***, just an honest comment.

I'll start. We're talking JDM and there I understand they were all TII. So, the knock sensor on the S4's is on the center housing (iron), near the oil filler pipe, whereas on the S5's it's threaded into the rotor housing, above the spark plugs.

OP, this obviously assumes the engine is intact and never opened.

well an S4 engine would have a rod connecting the throttlebody to the OMP on the front cover of the engine. The AFM is roundish looking on an S5

The S4 the intercoller says TURBO II, on the S5 it does not say "II". But they are interchangable so its not sure fire.
