how come U.S. FC's are still cheap?

FCs have been cheap in the US because they sold a lot of them here. I think somewhere in the ballpark of 150k 2nd gens sold in the US when new. Lots of supply kept FC's and parts plentiful and cheap for a long time, but we are just starting to see that supply dwindle in the past 5 years or so. I still personally think that NA FC's are good value since you can pick up a solid one for $6-8k.

“Cheap” is relative.
I’ve had 8 fc’s. From a bunch of them for free to a $250 t2 car with blown engine, to my current car which was my first car which was clean, had 113k on it and I bought it for $1400, to a s5 na with t2 engine set up big turbo, haltech for $3800.
Hard for me to justify buying another one with current 7k+ prices. I’m literally selling my spare s5 t2 to my friend TODAY who’s been begging me for months to since he can’t find any turbo parts.
I figured if my car chassis gets unusable, I’d move everything over to an older RX2-4 or something similar.

You kidding me? I used to score FCs and FBs for a couple hundred bucks to well under a thousand on Craigslist, mostly rusted out. Part them out and make a killing.
Now they're several thousand and I'm thinking of getting out of the game.

yeah, I sold a mint 90 vert that blew an apex seal. for 1k. The guy who bought it knew rotaries and was ecstatic to have it. This was like late 90's.

But to comment on price different geographically, I think it’s because rotaries to Australians are the same as old school American muscle to Americans, correct me if I’m wrong.
but whenever some random person would comment on my rx7 while parked or driving, they were usually Australian or from New Zealand.

Because new cars are cheap in the USA.
Seriously. Go compare the cost out the door of a new M3 in the USA vs Australia, or Europe, or Asia.
Hard to convince people to pay $100k for an FD when $70k buys a 2022 BMW M3
Edit: This is also why Asia has so many modded cars. Easier to justify $20k in engine work on an older car, when a new M3 is $300k after taxes.
