they have fm transmitters.. not my cup of tea though since it goes by radio signal.. but i heard you can mess with people with those, like put some offensive music on your ipod and set it to the radio station they are on lol

The FM transmitter is a band aid at best; everyone I've heard sounds like ***. If you don't use cassettes anymore, and you have some electronics skills, you can convert the cassette deck to an aux input.

FM transmitters are so awful...

Off hand I don't think that any of the decks in the RX-7 had an option for aux inputs or a CD changer. Someone more familiar with the stock sound system can answer that question for sure.

If you are good with electronics, you can trace the circuit and add your own aux inputs. You would cut the traces in the board which connect the RF section to the power amp, then wire in a DPDT switch so you can switch between the stock radio and your aux inputs. Back in the day, people on MP3CAR.COM used to do this quite often. You may need a matching transformer but overall it's rather straightforward.

An even better idea is to replace the old deck with something made in this century.

you can use an FM modulator to block out everything but the frequency you are using for the MP3 player. It noticeably improves quality.

So does hardwiring the transmitter to your antenna. Works a treat.

Yeah, but they still sound awful. The frequency range of FM is rather limited...

I can use my tapedeck for it but I'm basically in the same predicament!

FM transmitters sound like *** and don't work properly depending on the transmiter\radio combo.

no radio...

just mount a small amp behind the dash. you can run all house speakers to that small amp. Then you could run a extension from the aux input on the back of the amp, and mount that somewhere you'd like to keep your iPod. Basically you could plug in your laptop, ipod, whatever, to that input (probably RCA).

I suppose you could still keep the stock radio with this type of set up.

Holy crap I get to be useful on the forum for once lol. Here are is a device meant for exactly what your saying. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...KOSA200&tp=422 well there ya go problem solved lol. There should be more like this out there but this one says it fits the rx-7's so there ya go. Ya it still hard wires to the antenna but for the most part you shouldnt notice the differance w/ the stock headunit.

Ya that would be the best option. Get a nice aftermarket head unit and if you buy it on crutchfield they throw in the wiring and the dash install kit for free so it just plugs in and your off.

The tape input into the head unit can be used very easy, you just need to get a DIN plug (digikey) and wire it in.

You do not want to use a FM modulator unless you absolutely have to or you don't car if you have full fidelity. The absolute best FM modulator I have seen only gets 20-15K Hz... while the average sub 30 year old can hear 20-20K Hz.

You don't want to use a tape adapter as the best tape adapter in the world in the best tape player only gets 35-15K Hz.

how is adding an amp to your stock POS stereo ghetto...? All I'm doing is adding an extension off the auxillary and running it somewhere useful.

It's a much better set than stock, and there is ZERO chance of it getting jacked like a nice aftermarket stereo. (our cars dont scream security)

As a matter of fact, most mp3s have radio so there is NO need to carry around your face to your head unit, mp3 player, cd's tapes... just one little mp3 player.

It's a lot less messy than soudering and hacking up your top of the line, 87 Mazda deck.

$80 at walmart (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4744710), plus install kit, harness and antenna relay (if you listen to am/fm).

I have an upgraded version of this one and it works very well. Plus, you'll grow to love the USB flash drive input. Being able to carry 2 gigs worth of music with your keys is a wonderful thing!
