How can this be??? Somebody PLEASE HELP!!

OK I have just finished reassembling my car after replacing the exhaust manifold gasket....

Everything seems to be ok....coolant topped up, oil ok etc, no leaks...

I start the car....it start...although very rough and runs for about 15 sec then dies....strange ....ok try again a few more times....sometimes it will start sometimes not...

then it hits me.....afm is not plugged in....(der).....

plug in AFM......still wont start....maybe its flooded from before.

I pull the injection fuse and give it about 6 or 7 second with my foot hard on the gas....

put the fuse back in and it almost starts...not quite....

tried this a few times....no luck...

ok..i pull the fuel line from the engine and turn it over...it starts but VERY rough...then gets better....then better....then dies......expected.

reseat the fuel line...turn it over...no start

try this again but this time I pulled the fuel injection fuse (positive i have the right fuse!) and had a 2L coke bottle hooked up to the fuel line...

turn it over for about 10 seconds....get out...the bottle is 1/4 full.....HOW CAN THIS BE? The injection fuse is out so how can the pump keep pumping?

Another thing to mention is that I adjusted the tps while I was working on the car....should the car have been warmed up first? I adjusted it to 1kohm idle and 5kohms WOT.

My car still won't start so all help is much appreciated...

PS its and 88 TII

You didn't even follow the de-flood procedure correctly man. YOur suppossed to run the car for 10 seconds with the gas to WOT with the fuse pulled let is rest for 30 sec and repeat for a total of three 10 sec. cranks then replace the fuse and start like normal. Doing it once doesn't alwasy do it.

Interseting you should say that....the battery was flat so the whole time I was doing all this the car was hooked up to my other car with jumper leads.....how could the battery be doing this?

The battery could be too weak to turn it fast enough to overcome the fouled plugs or build enough compression to start up properly.

Replace the dead battery before you start it so you don't kill your alternator.

one thing u gotta check is to make sure you hooked up ur fuel lines right. i almost did this. the manual looks different than my car for some reason. im not saying u did this to your car but just check to make sure.

May want to either try the comples unflooding procedure, or as stated above, pull/push start it.

Just a thought but i could of swore i read some where that if the AFM was unplugged that the ECU had to be reset. I dunno seems like a whole bunch of problems including a flooded engine but its a place to start.

sounds like you lost compression. when you flooded your engine the fuel may have stripped the oil off the seals. try doing the advanced proceedure for engine floods. you can use atf but i like to use oil instead. dont forget to hold the throttle to make sure it keeps running and burns all the oil you added in the spark plug holes. if this doesnt work push start it.....
