how can i make the flames exit the exhaust?

i have an 88 rx7 na that makes a loud pop when ever i let off after 4000 rpm (only under load) im shure it back fireing and there must be flames in there but i cant see them i took my cat off to gut it but hay its already empty, clean as a wistle, it does have the split air pipe that just goes in and goes right to the other side lol. so i dont know why it wont shoot them out the tips, i have stock like mufflers, could this be the problem?

It really varies, but why you'd WANT them to pop bad-*** looking flames, on deceleration, to potentially ruin your bumper is beyond me.

Are you running emissions? The air-pump would have a hand at extinguishing your burning desire before it even gets a chance to kindle it's relationship.

If you REALLY want flames, run a completely straight pipe, from your manifold to your muffler... No emissions...

That would pretty easily do it. My old 86 used to do that /all the time: Decelerating was the common cause, though two-step revving was a good instigator, too.

One time I was at a light and had a white M3 practically humping me. Several nice, juicy fireballs the size of a beachball pretty much ruined his attempts at intimidation...

As well as his front fascia.

Light the car on Fire and Drive FASSST!..Problem solved!
Repeated Stompin on the gas pedal should produce flames..But it won't make you live up to Your Name.

its not just deceleration its any time i release the throttle after 4k ie shifting, so i essentially want to blow a single nice flame when ever im shifting over 4k lol and thats bad ***, just think of the rx riping past and you here it shift and a nice flame curls from the pipes as it pulls away, ya its cool.

ummm, I think it's because he is Mr Cool. What is cooler than flames? Some might say a properly tuned car..... but not Mr Cool.

As for how to get more of those bad *** flames, and aftermarket exhaust would help. The less internal baffeling in more free flowing exhausts will let the flames out better. next get a SAFC and dump a **** ton of fuel in that sucker. Wala! 8mpg and bad *** flames everywhere.

lol im loving the criticism of my name, any ways the exhaust is fairly straight compared to a regular rx7 exhaust as for baffling the stock y pipe probably dosent help and definitely the mufflers. but hay it makes a pretty nice bang as is and i get ruffly 450km per tank on 91. so all considering it dosent seem so bad. and thats me driving it "the way it was made to be driven".

Yeah, just open that exhaust up as much as possible. Throw a HKS high power single or Corksport single on there.

used to do it all the time when im in front of people lol
get the turbo boosting on a pull and just pump the pedal real quick

^^^ lean?

i think you mean a little rich, that would allow some extra unburnt gas to get in the exhaust and then be ignited by the heat of the pipes. running a bit rich never hurts anyways.

Its really easy to get flames with a straight through exhaust and a megasquirt.

change your muffler to a something bigger with more flow. let the flames come out. sounds like they are getting sucked back in.

mad tyte yo

if your going to do it just add a spark plug to your exhaust and add a switch so if you have a cop behind you you don't set his car on fire.

I was under the impression that doing the standard bits of mods, but leaving the stock ECU would do that, quite easily...

Open the exhaust: Headers and better flowing exhaust'll do it, regardless of the rest of it.

Been there done that, never once got a backfire let alone a flame.

You are correct though.

Just get 2.5 inch piping all the way from the stock exhaust manifold to a Corksport 2.5 inch catback. Be sure to throw a presilencer in there. Take the belt off your air pump or remove it entirely so the mixture doesn't ignite (prematurely in your case) like it was supposed to within the exhaust. Or just buy a Haltech and use the dump fuel feature upon deceleration.

I love how this thread is still alive and kicking. Does anyone have a picture of a melted bumper on an 7? I have seen some good ones, but it has been awhile.

To get flames to exit you must first get them to enter...

Bet this dude was exiting some flames out the exhaust.
