How Can I Lower My Car?

You could cut the springs, but then I would have to kick you in the ***** for doing that to a perfectly good rx7
Aftermarket springs aren't too expensive and should lower the car between 1/2 inch up to 1.5''. But then after 15 years on the stock suspension, many FC's are sagging already

so in other words, he welded some of the spring coils together, and he lowered it like that? could you be more specific, i kinda don't get his explanation, im sure you can give me the dummy version.

the idea here is to, instead of cutting...which is permanent...is to clamp the bottom 2/3/etc coils together and then weld straps around them to keep the clamped down.
Doing this lets the compressed coils act as spacers to help reduce the amount of time, if not cancel it all-together, spent on the bumpstops. Also, with the dead coils still there, there is less distance for the spring to travel which simulates a higher spring-rate. Much higher.
I have done this to 3 vehicles...1991 Civic, 2000 Focus, and an FC (not mine). Each vehicle require more coils to be compressed than what I thought would be necessary to get the desired ground clearence, and in the end the handling did degrade a bit. The Civic developed a severe understeer under WOT and would oversteer when throttle was released. The FC developed a very rigid suspension that would drive excellently on smooth clean surfaces but on the average gravely street it did not fair well. In fact the owner always seemed to be intentionally drifting around each and every corner...intersections, winding roads, K-Mart parking spaces...The focus was the only project I was totally pleased with, but I got to spend more time with it. One the focus I clamped 3 coils in back, 2 in front and I cut one in front...much like what's stated on the link.
I think that the nicest feature to doing this is that it's tunable, though tedious and drawn out, and it's reversable. And I always used clamps. Heat does wierd things to springs.
