I just bought my 88 vert. and as suggested by someone I put some gear grease on the diaphgram rods to see if they had moved during a "test" drive and they did not. I then tried to push one with my finger and it was a no go. What can I do to loosen them up? It seems that they are stuck and not opening for me, the car runs smooth but there is no high end punch at all.

You reallyshould do a search for Auxilliary Ports, under whats commmonly refered to "6 ports". It will yield you more than what you need to know about your existing problem.
