How to build an engine with full length dowls and studs.

How do i build an engine with full length dowels, and studs?

Basically, can I put the studs in after the keg is stacked? Or do they have to go in right away? To preface, I'm using turblown studs. Also with these studs, do I use the OEM sealing washers, do I put any RTV on them?

For the dowels, Im planning to build with the OEM dowels, but when I get the center plate on, pull them out and replace them with full-length dowels.

Thanks, any info is appreciated.

I will give you a bump, there are some great engine builders on here that might help.

i would do a mock up without seals or gaskets and see how it goes. the studs for sure can go in last like the tension bolts. i don't remember what the studs use to seal, wasn't it an O Ring?

The turblown directions seem to indicate that you use the OEM washers with them. I bought the kit recently but haven't assembled my engine yet. Probably best to confirm with them first. From my experience, they are very responsive to emails during normal business hours.

there are 2 different size stud kits from turblown i'm pretty sure. a standard size kit and then an oversized kit which requires drilling the front plate for the threads.

for the standard size theres no difference. you assemble the motor as usual, slide the studs in and they only go finger tight. then you torque down the nuts to the specified torque.

Alright, this is my order of operations. With turblown studs, you do not drill out the oem front cover holes, you just tap them with a bottom end tap, or a normal m10x1.0 with a bit of the taper cut off.

I will put the studs in last, when the engine is together.

for the dowels, I will use the oem dowels, once I put on the middle plate, I will pull them out, I made a puller with a bolt and slide hammer, then I will install the long dowels. It should work well
