Do a full tune up. Change oil, spark plugs, spark plug wires, all vital fluids, change air filter and both fuel filter and intake fuel filter.

Thats really sad.

Fawwwwwk....that's pretty bad. Something is seriously wrong. Check if you have any fuel leaks anywhere.
I don't think a past due tune up would cause it to be THAT bad.
Check your water thermo sensor if that's unplugged or defective. When it's not connected, your mileage drops TREMENDOUSLY. Then again, the car runs like **** if it is.
64 on a tank ..faawwwwkkkk....
I thought my Jeep Cherokee was bad.

Don't just do a tune up. Look at every fuel line connection for signs of leaking. I can't believe that your motor would go through that much gas - the space shuttle gets better mileage than that.

My suggestions: replace all of your fuel hose clamps with high pressure clamps.

They apply pressure evenly all the way around the hose, making for a better seal. And if you feel like going overboard, use Permatex type 1 form-a-gasket at all of your connections. Make sure it's marked "leak proof to gasoline." Keep in mind that if you want to disconnect one of these connections in the future, you will have to cut the hose off - you'd have to be Superman to pull it apart.

On second thought, check your steel lines as well. One could be leaking through a puncture or tear. Get under there with a light while the car's running.

Now that I think about it again... that means he's getting like .2-.3mpg... definately look for leaks. I wouldn't think the motor can even stay running that rich.

Oh yeah, I think you probably hold the record for worst gas mileage

If you want to check for leaks, it's pretty easy. There is a yellow jumper connector on the passenger shock tower next to the wrapped up wire harness. Stick a bare wire into both ends and turn the ignition to "on" and that turns on the fuel pump and pressurizes the system. Check if you smell fuel in the engine bay and feel the pulsation damper if there is fuel leaking. You do NOT want to drive it if there is. Check the 2 hoses at the fuel pump if leaking from there. If you can, get under the car and check the lines as well.

is this something i would notice while the car is sitting overnight? or is the only way of knowing if i have a leak is by doing the above check on those yellow lines?

if your plugs are completely fouled you would get seriously bad mileage like this. im sure there are other issues also though.

Theres no way. Unless your gas tank isn't filling all the way for some reason, or someone is siphoning your gas at night!

How do you pass Cali emissions? I would expect it to fail with that mileage. Good luck finding the prob.

Holy ****!?? I've never heard of anything like that 64 miles per tank. You must have a fuel leak somewhere. That's absolutely insane!

170 mpg? Is your rx-7 a hybrid??

Sorry, I had to. You meant 170 miles per tank, right?

That means you get worse gas mileage than 40' RV, but you don't have 50 gal gas tank.

Until you pinpoint the leak somewhere I suggest to have fire extinguisher handy.

If you are smoker don't be smoking while looking for gas leak .

Do you smell gas anywhere in or around the car? You should really just pull the UIM since that is the only way to get a good view of all the fuel lines, and replacing the pulsation damper. If the engine is hot you will often not see a leak, since the gas evaporates as it leaks out.

welp! i can't see the leak visually, did all those visual inspections

i didn't pass the california emissions, i was hella off the charts by like 4 thousand in 1 field, 300 on the other and like 200 on another ...... but passed later thnx to a shady person

i've changed the air filter and plugs already last month. I've changed my oil twice in the 3 months that i've owned the car. I noticed that at first i was getting a **** load of black smoke. Now i only get that black smoke when i start my car up in the morning and sometimes during the day.

i changed the o2 sensor and that helped a little bit. oh btw how many o2 sensors does an rx-7 2nd gen have?

i don't really think i have a leak since everywhere i go i also check that there are no fluids leaking under my car. I haven't seen any stains in my driveway either, and believe me it would show since i have a new driveway.

i hope i find the answer soon cuz i'm getting hella poor paying for all this gas.

another problem for me

as i was driving to pick my check up today i pushed my clutch in and it stayed down there not coming back up, i got no pressure. I called a mechanic friend and told me it was probably that i needed to fill the small container next to the firewall on the right side (facing the motor) with brake fluid. i couldn't go buy the brake fluid since all the stores were closed at that time. I asked my friend what would be the worst case scenerio (i like to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst). He said that it may be the clutch master and slave in the worst case. so i'll have to see tommorrow what happens, i had to tow my car home tonite on a flatbed truck, **** U KNOW WHAT!?!?!? i bet that tow truck got better gas mileage than my car 2 LOLOLOLL man this sucks, all i can do is smile and try to see all this with a sense of humor.
