Housings

I was wondering if during a rebuild if rotor housings can be reused? I've heard from a couple people that if I'm looking to rebuild my engine or get it done that I should buy new rotor housings...Is it necessary? my engine has 185,xxx miles on it and it is basically dead...so I've asked alot of local guys and a few local shops around and I'm wondering if you guys can give me some opinions or truths?

not an expert but after that many miles i would think there would be plenty of wear. if you want it right plan on new.

it depends on if the used housings are in spec and have no major scratches from maybe an apex seal breaking and grinding the surface

Most rebuild places seem to use new ones just to be careful. If you want to reuse them consider having it resurfaced. The process involves thermal spraying a layer of ceramic on the wear surface and then grinding the surface back to spec. (the ceramic has tungsten carbide in it, btw) The ceramic is very hard and doesn't wear like the original nitrided steel, plus it reduces thermal transfer and carbon build up... or so I've heard. I'm guessing you're not planning to spend that kind of money though.

As long as there are no flaking or scoring you should be fine. Is this a daily driver your building that won't see much action?
