Hot, really hot

Bought an 87 non turbo, both cats had been removed and garbage mufflers installed. Installed two after market cats and OEM mufflers, my hearing is starting to return. The cats glow red... :-/ There appears to be an air pump on the engine...is that supposed to be connected to the cats...will that solve my problem or...? Or, do new cats get hotter for a breakin...?

well, the air pump supplies fresh air to the cats. you will need a split air tube to accomplish this. you don't, thus no fresh air is getting to your cats and probably heating them up too hot.

If the front cat is glowing, you are running way too rich or radically mis-firing, and an air pump will not solve the issue
