Horrible vibrations on road trip
Hey guys. I took my RX7 on a vacation about a week ago to Somerset, PA. It's about an 80 mile trip from where I live. Well on the way up, right when I got into the mountains, I noticed a vibration when I accelerated, and when I let it coast down a hill. About 15 miles after that, it was noticeably louder, and shaking the back end more. By the time I pulled into camp, I had a headache and my back hurt from how bad it was vibrating. But I forgot about it all week (no tools, no jack). On the way home today, I had someone follow me back. I had to take all back roads (can't get the car going over 40 without major vibration). Then, once I ran out of country roads, had to go on route 70, doing 35 with a convoy of cars blaring their horns at me. Got it home, jacked 'er up, and I see my differential leaking... I crawled under and inspected the half shafts. Passenger side is fine, but the driver's side has WAAAY too much play in it. I would say a half inch of movement, maybe a little less. Not only has the seal been destroyed, but it is also moving where it goes into the differential itself, so I don't think the shaft is even bad. I have never done any kind of rear end work, so I'm not sure where to go from here. I would greatly appreciate any comments or advice as to what direction I should go in this. Thanks much!
i think instead of changing all the parts one by one...
try to get a tranny/driveshaft/diff ......
something similar happened to me when my driveshaft undid itself from the tranny. and the tranny housing on the side of the driveshaft was finish like it was eaten.....

Well that would be nice to do, but its a brand new tranny with less than 1000 miles on it, and money is an issue, seeing as how me going on vacation led to me being fired... while on vacation...
