horrendous gas mileage

So after getting my injectors cleaned here in town, I am having the worst mileage Ive ever had. Bad as in, I went three miles today and went from a little above 1/2 to on the E! The car smells very strongly of gas when I get out after driving it as well. I installed a narrowband air fuel gauge today and its really only getting into the rich area occasionally.

Also, I just tore the UIM off again just to make sure everything is attached correctly, and there is no fuel on the manifold or engine itself.

Im thinking there is a leak somewhere, but if it were in the engine bay, wouldnt it have caught fire already?

could be a bad pulsation damper or a leak in the rear bye the fuel pump just run the car at idle and look around the car for leaks. you might have pinched a fuel injector o-ring and spilling fuel around the injectors

Thats what I thought it was, and thats why I tore the uim off, but there wasnt any sign of it. And I ran the car long enough for it to be hot enough to catch fire I would think. I was wearing gloves and it was still nearly burning me. But the injectors for sure look good so thats not it.

you dont want the car to catch fire just run the car and follow the fuel path from the rear of the car to the front up to the rail then around the injectors up to the secondary rail into the FPR then back down the return line and back to the tank. It has to be a fuel leak there is no way that any car even with the worst tune running pig rich can down 8 gallons of fuel in 3 miles you would have a black smoke trail like a diesel truck. does your car smoke black?

Jumper the fuel pump check connector and turn on the ignition. Any leaks should be obvious.

It's yellow in color and MAYBE with black boot around it. Two sockets. It's not bolted to anything. It's located b/t the airfilter assy and the right front strut tower. Jumper with a piece of wire bare on each end. Key to ON. Leave in that condition for a minimum of fifteen minutes. Look under the car periodically for dripping.

I'll try to find a jpg somewhere.

EDIT: I found one online. Not my car. He put a purple circle around it.

No, just one.

That's the initial set coupler, not the fuel pump check connector, which is yellow.

Lesson here:

EVERYONE needs to prime the fuel system and check for leaks BEFORE going out for a drive.

OP got LUCKY... His car theoretically should be a molten pile of metal right noiw.

^ +1!

I found that both clamps on the line between the primary and secondary rails were loose before I started it up.
If not, I would of had lots of fuel all over my exhaust manifold!
