Hoods

Does anyone know where I could buy a Fiberglass T2 hood. The only thing I can find are Carbon Fiber and I can't see the benefit of paying that much for a hood thats just slightly lighter than fiber glass.

Just make sure they check it with a magnet to make sure it isn't steel. I think the GTU-s has the non-hood scooped aluminum hood.

I got mine at the wrecking yard for $30....but he should already have an alluminum hood if he has a T2.

The fiberglass hoods I have seen surfing the net are only like a pound or two lighter than the stock alluminum ones. Not worth it, IMO.

Jesus, not another search ****...

We appreciate you taking the time to tell him to search, but how about providing a link next time to show him that the Truth really is Out There? Lead by example.

You could make your own. Or have someone else make one, as long as you still have the stock one.

LOL.. yeah... I only get irritated when people start providing incorrect information on a thread... like that GTUS's all have alum hoods.... Or that all convertibles all have alum hoods... or that all 86 base's have alum hoods... Every time its the same post.

From my *ACTUAL EXPERIENCE* aluminum NA hoods are ONLY found on SOME 86 NA's... take a magnet, some do, some don't. Mine came off of an 86 base, and I found another one on a different 86 base. But, I've also found steel ones on some 86 bases.

Happy Richter?

I don't think I've seen that documented before. But if you could point out where thats actually true, I would love to see that added to the FAQ.

I thought all verts did come with aluminum hoods since they tried to reduce the weight as much as possible.

I'm not saying those claims are 100% wrong, I'm just saying... the only one I can be sure of is that SOME 86 base have alum hoods. So, until somebody proves it, Im skeptical.

I'm fairly certain i've read that somewhere on some rx-7 site about the convertibles, the same goes for TIIs because they were trying to preserve the 50/50 weight balance when adding the weight of the turbo up front.

The problem with that is that after a couple of hours that link will point to a page that says "no search results found", so that doesn't really prove anything, does it?

I would think it would still prove that there ARE search results to be had. Wouldn't you?

And if he comes back when he gets the topic reply notification, then he'll have the benefit of one click access.

Ive seen a few verts that had steel hoods but, ive seen more than have alum hoods.

If you watch ebay theres fiberglass na, and T2 hoods on there from time to time. but they are usualy a little pricy. the na hoods go for more than the t2 ones on ebay, its stupid. i dont understand why.

the GTUs is suppose to be a turbo2 with out the turbo. Suspension, breaks, rims,16 in rims, ALUM HOOD etc. all from trubo2. i had a GTUs personally and was the 3rd owner and it had a alum hood. i know it was already on the car (not swapped out) cuz the red faded evenly with the car. Icemark pls back me up with the GTUs has alum hood from factory.

hey u noob read carfully, was the scoop ever mention, no i refering to the hood and wat it is made out of u dumbass how about u read it again and think about what u read.

alum hoods were made with the scoop and no sccop.the alaum hoods can be on any trim level rx7 due to the fact that people buy em and swap em out, but i was talking about factory. in this time of year u just look under the hood and see if the hood latch was weld on or rivet on and that will tell u ur answer there. end of story

I just wanna know if there's some kind of contest I don't know about for search ****'s, do you get points for being the first person to post "try searching for it noob"? I did do a search and didn't find anything, thats why I posted. Anyway I have a GTU so I don't have a T2 hood to make a mold and I'm not gonna run a front mount intercooler just yet. Aluminum hoods will dent and are either too costly to repair or are unrepairable after a good hit on the front end.
