Hood pop and latch

I've had this problem for a while now and I was wondering if there is a simply way of solving this. When I pull the hood latch cable from inside the car I hear it pop, but the hood doesn't lift up. It disengages, but I guess the spring has died... as have most other things on the car... anyone know how to fix this. (yes I did search, but didn't come up with anything like this)

Look an you'll see its adjustable with its mounting bolts. Also look at the cable where its anchored to the latch assy. Has it broken loose? That happened to me and I managed to epoxy the attach point for the cable (two years now). Also it does not hurt to add a dab of grease at the rotating points.
