i make my own hood lifter kits for s4 and 5, there is no difference between the s4 and 5, however there are steel and alloy bonnets, but the pressure on my dampers are set right.

I just installed the Ebay shocks on our vert project. I figured I would give them a shot, if they were junk, I would just pitch them and keep the hood prop. Honestly they work great on the aluminum hood. About half way up, the shocks take over and it lifts by itself. I am very pleased with them.

Damn, i wish it had a 2 bolt solution for the hinge instead of the single one. I don't like the single bolt design on the hinge at all. Last thing I need is for that little bracket to rotate and put the end of the damper through my FG hood. Looks like I'll be trying to get a set from joshrulz.

That is bizarre. Hood dampers shouldn't have any effect on your hood latch. Like said above hood struts only take over once the hood is past the 1/3-1/2 open position. So, once you have brought the hood back down past that you should not have to slam anything. Many people have problems similar to yours when they switch from steel to aluminum hoods because the latch they had was for the heavier steel hood and the spring needs more force to close. Do you have an aftermarket hood, perhaps you need a softer spring for your hood latch?
