Hmm no start.....

1989 vert auto ( yes I know lol ).

Picked up this vert from an older gentleman and was told it wouldn't start coming out of storage ( he stores it in a trailer every winter ) and that he just wants it going to an enthusiast.

Get it home, it cranks fine but no dice, the needle bounces but Nada. Check if it's getting fuel and I can smell it coming out the exhaust and when I removed the plugs out of them as well (egi fuse pulled). Listened for even pulses out of the leading plug hole ( with only one removed at a time) and it has even steam engine like pulses on both housings.

Put the old trailing plugs in that came with the car and put a tiny bit of oil in the leading plug holes to see if I could maybe build some compression. Put the leading old plugs back in. Cranked with egi fuse out so I could get it all around. Waited ... Waited....

Put the egi fuse back in and attempted to start. I felt like it would catch but it never did just had one close attempt and then back to just cranking ... Back at square one again.

How do I check spark ? Any ideas on what it could be ? Any things to look at. Currently going to have to trickle charge the battery as it's getting low from trying to crank.

Thanks guys

If the starter is dragging that could prevent the car from starting.

Pull the plug wires off of the lead coil and place the plug wires right up against the coil bore and w/key to start you should see some flashes.

The primary injectors, used for starting, could be clogged.

Try 1 to 2 seconds of starter fluid into the air intake and see if that helps get it going.

Check the yellow /black feeding the leading coil for 12 volts . Also can pull a plug wire off and ground it to one of the strut tower bolts just off the top my head .

Got it started YAY !! It holds idle fine and returns to normal after speeding up.

Can anyone post their temp gauges on an S5 ? Stock of course because some people are saying it's in the ok range and some people are telling me it's not. Since I haven't owned S5s I wouldn't know. Also on this note where is the temp sender located at for the gauge? I'm going to flush it when I get the chance as per advice here on the forum

Middle of the range is proper for an S5 when the gauge is working properly (S4 would be 1/3 max).

I hope it's just faulty lol. It reaches that temp in about 5ish minutes. But doesn't budge anymore.

A series 5 gauge that is working properly should sit slightly below half not slightly above half. Youre running hot according to the gauge in the picture

The S5 temp gauge is not as accurate as the S4 version as it is not sensitive enough to indicate minor variations. There are basically two positions for the S5, good or not good thus if it were in the bad range the needle would be fully pegged.
