HKS exhaust...

on wednesday me and two other buddies skipped school to put in my new cat- back exhaust system. it took us about four hours. when we took of the old one, i started it up with just the cat and it sounded SWEET. any way my point is that Mazdatrix (thats where i got it from) promised a "noticable gain in hp." but it felt the same to me. they also said "the tone is excellent" but it sounds pretty much the same as the stock one, except a bit deeper. WTF? it pisses me off because it costed me a lot to buy. is there any reason why i wouldnt notice a difference?

strainght out of the cat is sweet but not as loud as straight downpipe (I know on my car because im currently running one). run it open cat and you will tell a difference.

I love the stock sound of an exhaust, thats why I got a Racing Beat exhuast. If you wanted a loud exhaust, you should have searched around a bit and found that corksport would have been the best choice for you. Good quality, single exit (less weight) and loud. Your catback is a bit more free flowing, so you should see a minimal HP gain, probably 5hp or so.

Is it hooked up to the stock cats? If so when you remove those/replace with high flow, that is when you will really see the HP gain...

BTW do you have the single or dual HKS? My friend has the Single on his N/A and there was a noticable difference, well we also replaced the cat with the Bonez hiflow...

Well with just a catback, you're not going to notice that much difference. If I were you (and I kinda am, I'm about to get a new exhaust too, I'm in the same situation) sit on the catback for now, it's a good setup. Save your pennies for a while and get a good high flow cat. Then you will be a happy, happy man.

i had an HKS single on my NA with the stock cat. i did feel a bit of a difference, especially at high rpm (it probably wasn't more than a 5hp gain though). i loved the sound, it had a great rumble at idle.
