hks evc 4 install help :(

Ok so im installing my EVC4 and wiring was no problem. got the actuator installed in the bay, got my harness through the firewall, everythings wired up, i have power, its all great.

vacuum lines

can someone show me a pic (diagram or photo, whatever) of where the vac. lines go? (stock turbo)

i realize its internal wastegate, i have my fsm out and the hks manual for the evc4, but i just cant figure where to run my vac lines. searching sucked too.

heres what im guessing:

4mm line goes to pressuse source (the furthest back nipple on the uim? the angled one? thats where my boost gauge runs to, can i tee off that?

one of the 6mm lines goes to the wastegate actuator... i need a pic, or some way of getting to it, because i dont know where it is really :/

the other 6mm goes to a pressure source on the compressor housing? where is that line?

here is a link to the install instructions from hks:
http://www.hksusa.com/info/download.asp?id=1643#
(click download obviously)

i sure hope someone can help :P

thanks guys

Does this picture help? Stock the VERTICAL line attaches to the metal line going around the turbo, and connects to the wg actuator line. (FYI, mine is moved a lil bit)

EDIT: or are you jus trying to figure out how the lines run through the EVC?

looking at the diagram, it looks like the vertical line should be cut and the evc should be placed in between the compressor housing and the WG actuator. And those lines connect to the first and second nipples on the EVC.

that picture is great it shows what i need to see, but i dont understand the hks instructions...

like your edit, im trying to figure out where to run the lines to from the evc. also, do i remove the duty solenoid? there are things not covered in that instruction that id like to know :/

am i capping anything? plugging anything? anyone understand what i mean?

i dont see the need for capping anything, your just cutting the line and reconnecting open ends to the EVC. Im not sure what you mean by duty soleniod, so ill let someone else chime in on that.

well isnt there a solenoid that activates the wastegate actuator (god that sounded dumb)

basically id assume what im doing is teeing the 4mm line from the evc into my boost gauge line (back of intake manifold on passenger side (angled nipple)), then the 2 6mm lines go between the vertical blue vac. line in your pic? like i would cut that and run the boost controller inline with that?

Read the instructions thoroughly and the connect it up as per the diagram on page 2. It looks very simple to me. Connect port 1 to a nipple on the UIM that sees vac and boost (4mm line), port 2 to the wastegate actuator (6mm line) and port 3 to the nipple on the compressor outlet (6mm line). Job done.

yes, i am trying to UNDERSTAND before i do it.

i am basically connecting INLINE with the actuator nipple and compressor housing nipple, correct? and is it safe to TEE the 4mm into my boost gauge line? or will that somehow mess up the reading of my gauge?

ok to rephrase, i understand the evc instructions, i just dont know the corresponding places on the rx7 to hook to. i understand the meaning. I just dont know 'safe' / 'proper' nipples to use or vac. lines to tee.

what has everyone else used?

that's the stock boost controller. It's a blue solenoid located on the driverside of the engine bay near all the other solenoids.

i totally remove it? i unhook it, take it out, and what about where the vac. line runs out of it... what about the other end of that line? do i cap it?

and am i right about putting the new boost controller between the actuator nipple and the compressor nipple?

does anyone have a picture of where their boost controller vac. lines go to? and what do i do about the solenoid?

Follow the three steps I wrote above. For the boost signal (the 4mm line) you can tee into the MAP sensor or boost gauge lines. The other two lines are no-brainers. Since you'll be replacing the stock lines on the wastegate and turbo you don't need to worry about the stock boost control solenoid. Leave it plugged in to avoid an ECU error code.

Ok this is how i hooked it up (attached picture)

i hooked up to the compressor nipple, and the wastegate actuator line i hooked up to the top of the hard line (GREEN arrows) (i mean the hard line that goes around the turbo, NOT the one with the blue vac. line in the pic...)

this is assuming that the bottom of the hard line goes to the wastegate actuator (red dotted line)

just let me know if im correct thanks

As long as the wastegate actuator is connected to solenoid port 2 and the compressor outlet is connected to solenoid port 3 it'll work.

thanks man i got it all calibrated and set, and man does that wastegate open faster now... i actually experience a few miliseconds of lag, and then its just power. i havent played with a high boost setting yet, because i dont have my walbro in, but soon!

thanks for all the help!

YAY for digging up old threads!

Anyway, I just got a evc 1. put it in, wired it up plumbed it. It doesn't do jack! My car is s4 with the s5 turbo. Ummmm....so what happens is with th pwer to the controller on or off or what ever setting I put on the controller the wastegate never opens. Is there anyway to test the controller/solenoid valve without the car running? Or with the car running for that matter. I thought that with the power to the controller turned off it should just bypass the solenoid. Right?

I've got port one tee-ed to the pressure sensor. Port 2 to the compressor housing. And port 3 to the wastegate. Any help? Or is my solenoid busted?

holy crap. well good job for searching. i'm not familiar with the EVC but i dont know why you have 3 ports all plumbed. normally with the actuators youll have like port 1 and 2 and an additional one. you choose either port 1 or port 2 depending on if its internal/external wg. maybe i'm not understanding you. care to take a picture.

port one is manifold pressure. port two is boost from the compressor and port three is the modified pressure from port two.

According to this http://www.hksusa.com/faq/?ID=1544 There is a switch on the back of the head unit to switch from internal to external wg. I can't find one. Maybe there isn't one on the EVC 1? All that's there is a sticker saying poppet valve(external wg). Why does it matter whether it's internal or external?

Yes it matters because it affects the way the solenoid opens. On an external wastegate the solenoid works a different way...the more the valve is open, the higher the boost (if connected to the top port of an external wastegate). on an internal wastegate, the more the valve is open the lower the boost.
