high oil pressure problem

I have an 86 rx-7 and I am currently trying to fix it back up so that I will be able to use it once again. It ahs been sitting for about a year, and I have noticed that right at start up, the oil pressure goes through the roof. I was just wondering if anyone else has had that problem and how it can be fixed. I ddon't know if it is just reading wrong or if the oil pressure release vaalve is stuck shut. Anyone knowing anything pertaining to this or someone who has had a similar problem, please help me. Thanks.

Try changing the oil, and running a quart of "motor flush" through your system for a good five minutes...as stated by the directions. I do that every other oil change and my oil pressure is so amazingly consistent, that I can tell when I need to add oil...as I'm driving...by the slight loss in pressure. When I stop to add a quart, my timing is usually right on the money. Hope that helps. Rob

Barring a critical loss of oil, (the oil pump pickup becoming uncovered) the quantity of oil in the engine is not going to affect oil pressure. As long as the pump isn't drawing in air, the pressure has no relation to the amount of oil in the system. Think of it the other way around - If you put in too much oil, would the pressure go up? No.

The sender wire is probably shorted to ground, or the sender is bad. Common problem. Shorting the wire to ground will cause the gauge to read past max pressure.
