Question High idle & intake temps; smoking turbo, no power... What's Up?

I finally got my car to run (see 'Haltech'ed J-Spec No Go!' or something like that), but it's still got some problems...

The car will idle at around 2500 rpm (w/ just a downpipe), and smokes quite a bit. The intake temp (monitered w/ the Haltech) will start out @ ambient, and then just shoot up when the engine is started. After 10 minutes of idling today, the temps were up around 175 degrees F and climbing. Coolant temperatures maxed out at 201 degrees (idling, not driving) after about 10 minutes as well. When I shut the car off, the turbo let off smoke (from below the heat shield I think, it was kind of hard to tell) for about 10 minutes as well. Could timing do all of this? I talked to Mr. Gibson from www.fc3s.org (from whom i bought the engine), and he suggested messing around with the timing a bit. I read on the Hitman's site that it is possible to insert the CAS 90 degrees off which causes the Trailing plugs to fire 180 degrees out of phase -- could this be causing the problem?

Right now the Haltech is set @ 22 BTDC for the leading plugs at no load. Does this sound about right?

Off to go double check my timing...
Thanks!,
Manolis

Damn!...
Timing is dead on AFAIK. the engine holds an idle at about 2750 still unless I change the trigger angle to like 70 (from 35), which gets it to drop to around 1200 but it runs like crap then (I put it back at 35 and rechecked it w/ the timing light). What could be causing this thing to run so hot?! How about the high idle?

Thanks,
Manolis

Youre idling high because you have a vacuum leak.
If you inserted the CAS the way Hitman told you to, you shouldnt have a problem.
If you used one of Hitmans maps, you shouldnt have a problem.

If you got the timing right and are using one of his maps, you have a big problem and I dont know what it is. A smoking turbo sounds like its blown, but thats just me.
A car getting to 201 degrees when its idling at 2500rpm doesnt seem too odd to me. As for what the intake temps are so high....I dunno. Could be because of the turbo just spinning faster than normal at idle. Ive never experimented on my car to find out.

P.S.

Its a vacuum leak AFTER your throttle body.

What type of intercooler? If you are not moving very fast, and revving that high, then you might just be getting normal heat soak from your IC.

As far as the idle goes, I just don't know.

Is the car making boost at its high idle? With a haltech the only thing to cause a high idle is a vacuum leak past the tb, as adam mentioned.
