Hey guys I saw this on another Rx7 at a meet before, but he somehow kept his high beams on while having his headlights down. I can do it but I have to hold down the stupid lever... I was wondering how this is down and if there's any tips/ specifics parts I need or need to solder.

i did it wasnt hard at all

 

Take out your retractor fuse(engine bay)
turn your lights on and switch them to HI.

what good are hid's with your housings still off? WOW... i forget how ricey people get

 

JDM flash to pass has the lights built into them, our USDM models simply work off of you using the high beams while the headlights are down.

Safe, still maintains existing functionality, and easy to do.

Don't pull the retractor fuse because that renders the headlights unusable.

 

i just ran a switch inline with the wire that operates the pop up setting by the headlight dial

 

I ran little switch in the side of one of my old TII's headlight switches that intercepted the flip-up wire. Flip the switch, and the lights would turn on, but stay down, flip the switch on and the lights would pop up and down normally. Also had a little button at one time that I could press to make only one motor "wink"...I know...I was young.

Other 2nd gens, I'd just pop the fuse out too. But would only do that for temporary looks, like while in a well lit city cruise or meets. That sorta thing. Be no means was there any usable amount of light coming out the FTP lenses.

lets upgrade the lights to shine through a less than optimal port in the front of the car to kill the additional lighting quality!

i have mine on a switch so i can do it for aesthetics, but to pull the retractor fuse and run it like that full time is 100% rice.

it's sad when some people can't even tell that they are given a sarcastic answer and do it blindly, worse when they are satisfied with the results. when i use them as driving lights i can't see the road for **** even with my HID upgrades.

 

Or get housings with City Lights incorporated which push light throught the FTP lenses akin to JDM city lights. You can get them from danielsternlighting.com and you'll get a great education on aftermarket lighting just trolling through is web site.

That way you end up with best of both worlds. Just understand, it's pretty much only a for show thing. You really don't get any functional value that you don't already get with parking lights.

 

or install fog lights.

FTPs are called flash to pass for a reason, they can't angle the light to actually hit the ground.

 

^or, better, driving lights that trigger off the high beams. That will get light up things way down the road, so a true added functional value.

 

i like the S5 fog lights, they actually somewhat improve the front aesthetics of the car.

yes, but i don't know if the plastic can handle the heat from HIDs.

 

Two years, no heat damage issues. And I run them a lot. Same for the Driving Lights that also have HID's retrofitted which are a comparative much tighter fit.

There is a good amount of space inside the S5 fogs, so heat is spread pretty evenly. I've since removed the driving lights as the HID headlight kit from Sakebomb work so well they actually over power the driving lights at high beam. I'll put the driving lights on the GSLSE when I get around to it.

 

i may try it on the GF's S5 GXL, even though i rarely use the fog lights it would be a nice upgrade for the whole lighting system over the delapidated halogens.

 

I'm volunteering for 7Stock, so will be getting there at O Dark 30. If you get there while it's still dark, look me up and you can see in person how well they upgrade the functionality of the stock fogs. Especially when using 3000k's.

 

Don't the s5 FOG lights block the airflow tubes that keep the Front brakes cooled down?

 

You just have to disable the trace to the relay shown in the schematics. That's the Retract relay.

Then turn the light switch to on and on high beam or low beam they work just the same as before except the headlight assys will not go up/down.

To make the headlight assys go up/down you use the small **** just above the headlight switch to go up or down. Easy peasy.

This has been written about before and there were jpgs showing the trace to the retract switch that needs to be cut . I ain't a gonna go search that for you.

Series five the same I believe. The trace is the gnd trace to the retract relay.

in all honesty, those ducts are mainly to give the "impression" of a more performance oriented sports car, they do next to nothing and would probably better serve as a cold air intake ram location.

 

Yes you do because you cannot legally in CA drive with parking lights on anymore. Theres many times where I'm driving on the freeway, and its not dark enough to warrant me flipping the pop up headlights on yet, but I would still like to be a bit better seen. That would be a perfect situation to keep the headlights shining through the FTPs.
