Plus one. Real hids cost a grip. If you can't put out a few hundred for them stick with an unsealed lamp like a HELLA and some silver stars.

You'll get the same light pattern as a halogen H4, and tons of glare that will make on coming traffic want to shoot you.

Halogen H4:

HID kit (same as in your link) in the exact same housing. Hot spots and glare like whoa:

What on coming traffic will see, shortly before they decapitate you:

If you're going to get H4 housings, stick to H4 halogens. If you want HID, then do a retrofit.

If you want a cheap retro, it can be done for around $100 and some fab work. I'm currently doing that right now, and trying to keep it as cheap as possible.

Projectors extracted from a 1993 J30 headlight assembly. Purchased the set on ebay for $30 shipped, along with a 9006 HID kit for $70 shipped. Once the large mounting tab on the left is removed, the projector assembly will fit in an FC headlight housing.

Light produced by said budget retrofit:

NO GLARE above the cutoff, even amount of light distributed across light pattern, much wider lighting area than an the hella H4 housing, no hotspots, no pissing off other drivers on the road. Done for much less than what it would cost to buy an HID setup from an OE application, just a tad more than a Hella H4 conversion.

With wire, solder, heat shrink and new connectors. Aim could be the stock adjusters or my own, not that far in the project yet.

Yes, you do need a ballast which is included with an HID kit. The kit I'm using, as well as most other kits on ebay use a 9006 connector for the ballast. The kit I have, which is pictured with the J30 projector, includes the plug in the harness. The high beam is a halogen 9005, so a 9005 plug would be used there.

The FC harness will need to be modified to make the high beams work correctly. With the stock sealed beam, the low beam filament is turned off when the high beam filament is turned on. I don't want that with my setup, like any other dual bulb head light configuration. The low beam is simply turned on by the headlight relay, bypassing the dimmer relay. The high beam will still be controlled by the dimmer relay.

Another option since FC's have a single bulb for low and hi beams is a bi xenon setup. I know the Infiniti FX-35, and the Acura TL have such projectors. I am pretty sure there are others. http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/ has a lot of good info on HID goodness. As previously stated if you want to go HID doing a retrofit with actual HID projectors is the best and safest way.

No, you wouldn't need a stronger alternator. HID's take less power than incandesants do so you get a small reduction in power used.

Not to be rude or anything but you do realize that this thread is a little over two years old...
