And Blue TII you are absolutely correct - I looked at the Racing Beat site and it's 7 HP difference that the cat back exhaust gets.

The stock exhaust looks really old and cheap.

I also got to hear a RB cat back on an FC and it sounded great. Not loud or obnoxious but subtle. There but subtle and I think that for the better look achieved it is worth it.
You probably don't have the OEM stock system on the car as over the years the factory mufflers have probably been replaced. The OEM mufflers are far from cheap as they are large oval cans painted black with chrome extension pipes, actually pretty neat. Better sit down if you ever price them.

I have always loved the way the RB exhausts sound. Enough bass but not annoying. You will not be disappointed with the RB exhaust!

My 80mm HKS looks and sounds like the Racing Beat, with cats, it nearly sounds stock.

Removed and replaced with the original, yes original mufflers, not aftermarket and they flow great, have the precat removed, and with the factory main cat or Bonez cat the car runs 12 lbs with either, but with the Bonez, the car's exhaust is slightly louder. Been this way since 2002.
i've said it before and i will say it again, nothing is as quiet as the stock catback.

unless you are shooting for 350+WHP the stock exhaust won't hinder performance much.

you can't even hear my car from a block away, although the sound does have a little to be desired.. it is a rather raw sound, but extremely quiet.

If you think the RB exhaust with the stock cat in place is loud you really don't need to be buying a "hi" performance aftermarket exhaust.

That said, getting a single-exit exhaust with the stock cat in place, with a relatively small tip, a big main muffler and a presilencer would probably take 40 pounds off the car, which is better than getting 5 more horsepower anyway.

FWIW, even a loud exhaust like a Apexi GT isn't that loud with the tail silencer in. Those sort of mufflers aren't even intended to be driven on the street with the silencer out. They're designed for the track. That said they don't sound very pretty, silencer in or out.

wow you really think RB is loud? im running no cat i think its super quiet. i can only imagine how stealthy it is with a cat....i think that what u need is a cat back only exhaust. using the stock DP, stock/hi flow cat.

Ditto, what he said...Although, I'd like to think that I have over 350 rwhp.

If you want a nice quite exhaust setup, then stick with a factory replacement cat back like the Davico Ultra Fit brand. The Mazda dealership installed that setup on the car for the PO.

86 91 Mazda RX7 Dual Muffler Exhaust System All Models | eBay

Currently I have a CorkSport header (which eliminates the pre-cat), a new Catco main cat and a Borla cat back exhaust. The combo is load - but that is due mostly to the header. There is also a drone at highway speeds. I had to add sound insulation in the hatch area under the carpet just to make it tolerable inside the car with the windows rolled up. Personally I wish I could splice in a 1 into 2 resonator to replace the Y-pipe - something like a Magna Flow 14258

Magnaflow 14258 Single 2 5 in Inlet Outlet Dual 2 25 in Inlet Outlet Muffler | eBay

but I highly doubt it would fit under there.

You can make the Borla work on a S5 - you just need to lower the mufflers a bit by bending the rear hangers. I have about 5/8" clearance now and do not have an issues burning the paint. But yes it would be nice it the tips were longer for the S5.
