Hey, I'm new
I'm new here, this is my first post, but I am interested in getting an RX7. My friend has one and I love riding in it. It migh be the perfect first car for me. Is it possible to find a good gen II for around $2,500? and should I even consider getting an automatic? All feedback is appreciated, I'll check again tomorrow. Thanks.

Not a rotor? Not a motor.

Welcome to the forum.. first of all.. noo automatics :p .. problematic, and less fun to drive.
secondly, yes you can find a decent 2nd gen for 2500.. probably not turbo ... But if it's your first car, and you don't have alot of money to burn i'd recommend getting a N/A.. fewer things to go wrong with them. :p
rx7's are a great car and a blast to drive, turbo or not. If you're willing to get your hands dirty from time to time, and dont mind putting a little money into them, i'd highly recommend looking into it.
Cheers,

putting it down daily
Welcome to the forum- and yes, I found my 'vert for about that much, and have since started replacing drivetrain pieces with TII stuff. If you hold off a bit and save a few more pennies, start off with the turbo. It will be totally worth the wait, and you will spend a lot less than I have (doh) trying to convert an n/a to a turbo (:

Alright, maybe I will wait and go with a turbo. I'm makin' $500 a month right now and I can borrow money from my mom, so... maybe I'll spend a little more than $2500...

I'd only suggest waiting on a turbo if you know you'll want a turbo and you know you can deal with one more thing that might go wrong.
However, definitely wait out for a 5-speed. It took me less than a week to realize I want a 5-speed in my car.
$2500 should get you a good condition S4, though I'd suggest spending about 2/3 on the car and 1/3 on fixes and upgrades you'll inevitably need.
Read the FAQ, especially the buyer's guides linked there.
Take care of her and enjoy. Welcome to the club.
