hey everybody

OK, im gonna lay down a bit of a story about myself with rx-7s... my dad had an 81 when he was younger.. he loved and cherised that car and did some pretty cool modding to it.. well he had to get rid of it when i came along for practical purposes, but he is a rotary fanatic till he dies. When i turned 16 he actually found me an 84 GS with 64k on the odometer for 2500 bucks... i grew to love and cherish the car and babied it like anybody else who understands what a treasure an rx7 is to have... but unfortunately some ******** with no brains and a heavy foot decided to tailgate me and when i had to stop he totalled my car... believe me i mourned the loss of that car, but i swore that i would find a new one to drive. low and behold, the same weekend as my wreck a 10th anniversary edition turbo 2 showed up in the classified section of the newspaper. I purchased that car from a small dealer for 4200 tax title and liscence. however around 3 weeks after i got the car the engine lost all compression in the back rotor housing... so i got my parents to float me a loan for the engine, now im making payments for this car for a couple of years . well worth it though, my only question is this... am i doing this car a disservice by having it as my daily driver? i really dont have the money for another car with another insurance payment either. anyways... the car is in immaculate shape.. it sat in a garage in the rich side of town for its entire life, it was the play car of a rich couple in their forties... the only problem that it has is that the seats are in terrible condition.. but i can have that problem remedied for about 60 bucks. i just want to know how much this car could be worth if i work to bring it back to near showroom condition.. its not far, but i know that this car can sparkle once again... is it worth it? i love rx7s and i know their history, especially this one being one of 1500. the only thing that scares me is its kelly blue book value... any advice on this would be very appreciated...

i dont think your doing it wrong having it as your daily driver, as long as you take care of it like you said you did
im kinda in the process of restoring mine to what i want to be perfect condition
i have an 89 gxl that i love and have put LOTS of work into, but it is not quite showroom. most problems are cosmetic. i just got an 87TII though so im gonna sell the 89 sometime. its just that i want the next owner to appretiate it like i have so i need to get it in tip top shape first
but you are right, i think that you should try and keep the car in the best shape that you can, being as rare as it is. is it worth it though? i think so, at least to yourself. and then when you sell it sometime hopefully you can get the money its worth

welcome to the forum man as long as you take care of the car it should serve nicely as a daily driver. how did it lose all compression after just a week?
