Hey anyone use these cheap coilovers?

Hey guys i found these the other day

http://www.4caroption.com/Pdut_detai...ID=Coil%20Over

I know you guys are probably thinking that im a retard, but they are pretty cheap, and im not really willing to spend 400 bucks on shocks and another 200 on springs, im really just wanting to raise my car up and down. Anyways I just bought new shocks. Im not looking for any performance benefits but then again i dont want these to be worse then my stock ones. Do you think theyl be okay for my situation?

Thanks alot as always

Unless I'm looking at the wrong picture, you still need to buy shocks for them.
So you still need to pay $400 for shocks, but not your springs are $98 (+S&H) instead of $200 as you mentioned.

So you're saving maybe like $70?

Performance cost money.
Cheap will bite you in the ***.
Just work a couple more months and pay for something that will not let you down.

I have never heard of anyone who's actually tried one of the ebay coilovers. Could you explain why they weren't any good?

the fitment was an issue...... the top of them would not go into the strut mount... they simply didnt fit!! so i had to cut the top mount a little.... then they were VERY rough on the road! i might as well have had no suspension...... they also clunked every time i turned the wheel! other than that, they were great!! (sarcasm) that was just my experience, you might have better luck than me!

also.... there were no instructions...... there were like 20 little alan screws, but no holes to screw them into??!!!????!!?? also came with o-rings that wouldnt fit anything i tried putting them on!! all in all, very bad product and poorly designed

The Coilovers

The spring rates on the coilovers are pretty good they are very stiff they are pretty much 7k all around. With the right camber and damper settings they will do well. Yes they are a pain to install but you have to remeber that they are totally the same coilovers for any car and thats why they are so cheap. They come with like 200 little bushings for different size shocks. The pearch has to be cut a little but if you know what you are doing they end up being good. I would personaly just get some ground controls because they do all this for you and there street spring rates are much milder. The only reason I am forced to use these is because I am building a car for the 2005 grassroots motorsports challenge.

7k?
7k what?

What does spring rates have to do with camber settings?

That's interesting.

Does anyone have any idea why they would clink? Minus the problems outlined, were there any others?

I think by "7K" RX7goZoomZoomBoom was making an exageration meaning they have a spring rate of 7000 lbs/inch.

cant recall what brand i had......... made in guadamala, or some crap like that!! im glad to hear someone was happy with thier "coil-overs"...... i tried using grease, but still clunked...... it did it when i turned the wheel, and went over bumps or small potholes.... very annoying! dish out the extra $30-60 and just get drop springs (that are made for the fc....... not "universal" coil-overs)..... good luck either way

are there any lowering springs that I can put on my car without replacing the shocks? I really dont care about better handling or spring rate, the car handles amazing stock.

yup....just about any drop spring designed for a fc will fit on the stock strut no problem!! thats how they were designed. they were designed to take the place of the stock springs without any other modifications to the suspension

Generally what I don't understand regarding the E-bay coilovers is what is wrong with them. Everyone says they're bad, but few can offere details or have personal experience. Vipers' comments regarding the hole size is the first specific complain I've heard. It is possible to make your own coilovers, but since the ebay ones are cheaper I think it's usefull to understand the problems. If anyone can further elaborate, I've love to hear it.

Here's my thoughts: GC coilovers are $400. Ebay coilovers ~$50-100. Even if you assume the springs are garbage or have a poor rate, new 2.5" springs of any length/rate $30/corner. Used even less. You could sell the crap ones on ebay too. Essentially what do the GC's do? They are are a threaded tube with a perch. It seems like its hard to do that poorly. The ability to pick your exact spring rate is a good thing.

So why were they "crap" on your integra?

Arrow

The aluminum is very cheap and they tend to press the screw piece into the center shaft, basically welding it there and stopping it from being adjustable. I have even seen a screw piece (sorry i dont know the names) break the threading and endup on an angle around the center shaft.

^^^^specific complaint^^^^

Most "coil-over" conversions make noises, even GC's will. Grease helps, but not all the time. If you don't like the noice get a true set of coil-over struts/shocks or just go with lowering springs.
