Question hesitation or not?

I have a 87 GXL. When I rev it to 3800rpm it seems to pause or rev little slower(fraction of second) then it continues to rev higher. There is no drop of rpm during the pause and it doesn't happen all the time. I was wondering if I have 3800rpm hesitation problem. After I replaced my cats with Bonez race pipe it rarely happens. Which seem odd. Is this normal or is my actuators for 5th and 6th ports going bad?

Sounds like the standard 3800 RPM hesistation, though I don't see how a race-pipe could fix it. Perhaps during installation you wiggled something correctly, which fixed a small electrical problem. Usually teh 3800 RPM hesitation is due to missing/bad grounds.

hesitation use to happen all the time when I first got the car. The previous owner didn't drive it very much for about 2 years before he sold it to me. as I drove it more it seemed to happen less and less. If the grounds are bad wouldn't it happen all the time? Oh and after couple of months after I got my car I raced my buddy in his 240sx and he beat me horribly left me like he was racing a honda civic. when I got back I checked my spark plugs and wires and the boot from the trailing side just broke off and inside the leading boot had some rubbery stuff blocking the electrical connection. I replaced the spark plug and wires at the same time as my exhaust.you think spark plug and wires might have helped?

it may have helped a little bit, but like aaron said, it's more of an electrical problem...where the grounds going into the ecu isn't very good and when the ecu switches some of the injector load from the primaries to the secondaries it hesitates....
but the bottom line is, if it's not happening too much any more than "ride-on"!
