Herky jerky 87 base.

What would cause the rear of the car to jerk to the right when i hit a bump? The car is completly stock. I need to get it fixed quick cause my mom has been driving it and if you dont expect it it can be a hand full to drive. Thanks in advance.

Perhaps it needs to be realigned. Is there quite a bit of play in the steering wheel? Does it pull one way more than the other when driving or braking?? Have you hit any major bumps or potholes that could have possibly caused damage?

It's called bump-steer, and it can happen with a poor alignment. Imagine you have 2 different length tie rods, and the steering wheel is straight, wheels are straight, everything's good to go. Now imagine hitting a bump, and the tie rods don't change length, so the steering knuckle moves to one side as the control arm comes up.

I can imagine that at one point in time, the steering wheel was off, then installed improperly. So the steering wheel is now crooked. Now it's time for an alignment!!! Now the steering wheel is straight because the jackass alignment tech adjusted the **** out of the tie rods until the steering wheel is straight. So straight line driving is just fine, but once you hit a bump you feel like you're driving an SRT-4 and stomping the gas pedal.

I'm thinking bushings. Get back there with a pry bar and see if you can't get some bushings to wiggle when you pry on stuff. Maybe a lower control arm bushing, DTSS bushings are known for some crazy stuff too. If it turns out to be those, mazdatrix sells eliminator bushings.

Check the Lateral Links [jack up the rear, grab the link and try pushing it up and down, it shouldn't move at all]

You're going to have to be more observant. Have you visually inspected the front and rear differential mounts?? As AGreen had mentioned... Check the DTSS bushings.
