HELP!!! Whats wrong with my baby?!?!?!

I own a '89 Turbo II, she is my baby, just hit 80k miles, so pretty low, but I am having a really weird problem I have never had with my other 7's. The check engine light is on, but only when my foot is not on the gas. At idle it's on, when I shift, it pop's on the off when I give it gas. Why????

Then on hot days when i'm just crusin' with the A/C on and I give it some gas it starts making a wierd squeaking/grinding noise from the engine bay, but only under a load, but only when it's hot, my tep gauge stays at about half. Why???

Please help me you rx7 guru's!!!! I hate to see my darling suffer!!!

Exclamation

It could also be your O2 sensor. I had the same thing , but not as severe happen to me. The engine light would pop on periodically and all i'd have to do was give it some gas and it would go away. Put a new Bosch O2 sensor in it and it went away. Worth checking out...

Well thatnk you for helping me with that one, here is another one for you guys.

Sometimes when I try and start my car it wong turnover, it will click like it's a dead battery, but if I try a couple more times it fires off just fine. I have changed batterys trying to solve this problem and it is a new starter as well.

thanx,
TII

Okay, dont go after the TPS just yet..
I confused myself.

It certaily caould be the o2 sensor.

$18

Vs. a TPS $250!!!

Try that first.

Buy the O2 sensor removal socket too!

Make sure that you attach the new one at the end of the old wire. this way you end up with a longer wire too!

And buy a Factory service manual from your dealer immidiately!!!

Its not cheap, and its the best tool youll ever buy!

Or download an adobe document version at FC3S.org.

I have the same starting problem. mine is 89 TII.
I pump the clutch couple times and it works.
But one time I have a starter cable dead and get repaired by my mechanic.
I suspect there is something wrong with the clutch pedal sensor thing.

RX-7s are known for that...just turn the key a couple of times and it should fire up. There's probably no problem there.

Actually i have not known RX-7s for this at all.

And I know RX-7s.

I have see it once on a 1985 GSL-SE, but it was the large gauge positive battery cable.

Here it could be the cable, or it could be the ignition switch.

If you hear a "click" exactly like the click ou hear when the clutch ISNT pushed in, then its the clutch switch.

If its a different click, like down a the starter, then its a problem with the amperage being called for causing the circuit to open.

Like a bad battery connection. this would point to the cabel

But the ignition switch could have a problem with the smaller wires and apms required there too. (Although unlikely)

Check to see if the clicking is the same with the clutch up or down.
