Talking Help!!! Turbo Or No Turbo N/a?

I have a 1986 GXL that is N/A. I was planning on getting tha motor pulled street ported and rebuilt w/ new internals so it could handle the boost that i throw at it down the line. I asked an associate at Rotor sports racing what he thought of my idea and he sid i might as well scrap my plans because it cost more money to turn a N/A into a turbo. and because i have high comp. rotors. He said that i have to get a lot of other parts to make everything play nice.

I wanted to know should i scrap it and make a beast N/A or is it possible to get the rebuild and put a turbo on it and run it at low boost so it will be reliable?

All i really want is 300whp

300whp takes a lot of turbo.

You realize that a stock turbo2 is pushin between 180-200bhp dont you.

If your asking if an NA can do this than well... not a chance. It takes quite a few mods to get an NA up to 200whp.

If your asking if a turbo can do this... yes with lots of mods, and lots of tuning.

In any case a 300whp rx7 wouldnt be reliable by many peoples standards.

I have decided that i would probally go the N/A route. But what are some good mods to start with?

What is the curb weight of an 86 GXL? I hear thats a big concearn being the heavyest.

LOL were you trying to bold your entire post? Being 17 is no reason to be clueless about cars...go to howstuffworks.com and learn how the engine works. Like with any used car it could have a lot of problems that would cost a lot of money to fix...if you can even find a decent rotary shop near you. And if you learn to type like a high school student I think you'd get more opinions. Personally though from what I've read I wouldn't buy a rotary with the original engine if it has over 100k, just because I know I'll be redlining it often. If hes replacing the motor, I'd jump on it, but only if you read how the engine works and educate yourself a little about cars. I can tell you to tell him one thing though...the car requires a lot less maintanence than a piston engine. No timing belt/cams/valves at all. Pretty sure theres only less than 10 internal parts of the engine moving when its running.

PS. If the guy called it a 'shortblock' then stay away from the car, lol.
