HELP sunroof stuck open, wont close!!

sunroof is stuck open. i had this problem once before than i remembered that the guy i bought my 7 from told me that you have to take the sunroof to the fully open position before closing it (wont fully close from being partialy closed). that seemed to do the trick. now, even if i go all the way back it still goes all the way forward but sticks right before the back end drops into the roof. when the sunroof used to work i would always have to lift off the swithc and press it again at this transition because it would stop if i tried to get the roof to open/close with only one holding of the button. my initial reaction was to think it was an electrical issue because 7s are known for crappy wiring, but then i realized the mottor would keep running while the roof stayed still. now, even if i get out and push realy hard it with the motor running it still wont close wich leads me to belieze it some sort of mechanical jam but i dont know what.

please help me get my roof closed before the rains come

thanks guys

hold the button that brings it in, and push on it from the rear.

hold the button down and whack each side with a soft rubber mallot. then when it hist where it wont drop down, tap it at a 45 angle. that should get you by till you can drop the whole assy. and go through it.

most likely the window tracks are dirty, u can take off the door panel and spray WD40 or something like that down there to free it up a bit

Well, the window goes down fine. It will go up fine but with about 2 inches left it practically dies and I have to push the window.

Guys, WD40 isn't the product to use, as it attracts dirt; instead, use 'white lithuim' grease.

I thought it was supposed to be silicone lubricant in the window tracks. Anyway, the lithium grease might help out your sunroof too...

Mine did this exact same thing. I looked at the tracks and some residue or some **** was in there. I put a good amount of lubricating oil. And cleaned out the tracks. It worked after a few back and forth slides. Just work with it. And don't force it in. It's never a good idea to force anything down if it wont go.

If your sunroof is sliding all the way forward, but won't drop down, then its a different problem than dirty tracks. The sunroofs (rooves? what's the plural of roof?) have a little "lock" mechanism that catches on a plastic guide.. if its not catching that guide, it won't allow it to fall down. That's what prevents your sunroof from falling down and scratching your paint while it's back. If that this is your problem, you'll have to teardown and clean the entire sunroof assembly..
