Help! Stray Wires!

Hey guys, new to the site, and I have an 86gxl that blew up on me not too long ago. I got a new short block, switched everything, blah blah blah, and finally after a 12 hour day today working on it, I am ready to go except for a few things..one, I cant find the plug that matches with the green in my case oxygen sensor plug that I have...does it hook up to somethin out of the ecu or what? i've looked all over and cant find it..two, i have a couple wires hanging down by my starter, one is a white plug that looks like it should go somewhere, then there is like a dark burgundy squarish type of metal ring sort of like a contact that would go on some terminal of some sort, and i dont know what it goes on, but I do know it doesnt go on the starter..last of all, I tried to start it, and my batter was dead, so I tried jumping it, and I got alot mroe juice, but it still just clicked..I know my starter is good, is it probably just my batter being crap, and I should swap in a good one? Any help would be awesome, and i'll try and get some pics in of those spare wires soon..thanks guys

If you have a big wire with a big terminal down near the starter, is it your ground cable, from the battery? That should go under the starter upper bolt, either at the rear housing spot, or at the starter body, under the nut of the bolt, your choice. That would also explain why you're just "clicking". Do not try to start the car again until you've fixed that, or you'll fry the other engine-to-chassis ground, because that poor little guy will be trying to handle the strater current...

The O2 sensor plug from the harness is probably shoved under your UIM, near the EGR valve location. Try to get your hands in from the back of the engine and feel around under there for any loose plugs. It's a PITA to get to, I know

The other white plug near the starter might be for one of the two sensors down on the oil pan. One of which might be gone now (oil thermo switch), since it's no longer needed on our cars. In that case the plug won't have a home...

nice

hey thanks alot, that seems to make sense for the big ground for the battery, so basically if I don't ground that, every time I try and start it the current and voltage that should be going to my starter is really just flowing into my other ground? As far as the oil thermo switch, what you're saying is to just not worry about it? Thats fine with me I just dont want it to be like some goofy clip that goes to a fuse for the oil metering pumps or something like that..that would suck! anyways.thanks again

Don't worry about the technicality of the starter current paths at this point, lol, just figure out if that "spare" big wire is your ground, and install it at the points mentioned above. If it's NOT your main ground wire, I have no idea what you're talking about

No, you don't need the oil thermo switch, unless you live with Santa Clause up at the North pole. Just make sure your oil LEVEL switch is connected down at the oil pan (red/white wiring). If it's black/red, that's your thermo switch wiring, and you don't need it...
