help, shifting is feeling messed up
help, shifting is feeling messed up
ok, the rx7 has never been actually driven for a year now, i replaced the oil and flushed the radiator and turned it on, engine runs fine but idle is a lil jumpy, but the big problem is, i turned off the car for a while to make a quick inspection before i drive it around the block to get the kinks fixed, i play with the shifter, previously all the gears worked fine, now, i try to shift to first, it guides in half way, then i have to force it to first, 2nd gear is fine, third gear goes in easily, but i have a lil resistance and a click at the end when i get it to there, then 4th 5th and reverese is fine, is it just because the car is off? i dont wanna turn it on and test drive it just to have to push it uphill back to my driveway so i was wondering if anyone knows what could be the problem, i was told the synchros but i just want to see if theres any other reason why it should do that, and if the problem is easy to fix, and easy i mean able to do it with just 4 jackstands and hand tools
the gears likely are not meshed properly, roll the car a few inches and try again, i'm sure it will feel much better then...
synchros are not even spinning when the engine is off so you can't rule them bad until you drive it.

well i drove it once when i brought it back over here from TN, and it shifted fine except this one time where i was slowing down on a stop sign, tried to turn right but the first gear seemed stuck like it did this time, could it be from the long time of not being used and just needs to be driven again?
first is the lowest gear, if you try to force it in you are literally burning up your synchro if you try to force it in while you are going over 20MPH at low RPMs. if you want to downshift at higher speeds to a lower gear you have to rev the engine up while going into gear to match the shaft speeds.
this sounds more like a clutch master/slave cylinder problem than a transmission problem. try flushing, bleeding and adjusting your clutch.
