Help! RX7 Finally Started, but Questions...
My girlfriend brother in law bought a non running 87 RX7. Thanks to people in this forum, we used the ATF and unflooding tricks to finally get it to start under its own power.
We ran out of time last night because we discovered the catalytic converter was plugged, and it was too loud to run at night with the cat disconnected.
It still doesn't start everytime...We're hoping that disconnecting the cat will improve this...
We had to turn the timing ALOT to get it to start. I turned the timing clockwise as far as I could (yet still keep the bolt in the slot). This is the ONLY way it will start... is this considered advanced timing or retarded timing? This is the first RX7 I've played with...Originally the timing was set almost all the way counter clockwise. I'm hoping once we get all the ATF blown out of it today, we will be able to turn the timing back counter clockwise...
Is there anything else we should try to keep this RX7 running right?
Oh yeah, I underestimated how much smoke the motor would make once it fired up with the ATF in there...lol...I am SOOO glad it was in the driveway and not the garage.....
Thanks for any help,
LOtown

a good tuneup would probably be in order including plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, draining the tank, new gas, etc...
After that change the rest of the fluids (coolant, trans, rear diff, etc..
Lastly if it won't idle after the above services has been done check the TPS and see if it needs replacing.
Hope this helps
