Question Help rebuilding, porting turbo engine and what engine kit to buy?

Hi all,
I know this topic has been posted millions of times and sorry for posting this thread but I'm very confused on what kit to buy to rebuild my turbo engine. I did research and found very useful information but I read that the overhaul engine kit from Rotary Aviation is not recommended when using old rotor housings, then also read that I can use some old parts. My engine has 109k miles and has good oil pressure and compression but smokes white, this tells me the problem is a coolant seal, so I'm ready to but the kit and I'll like to port the engine and my budget is aroung $700, Where do I find the templete to port it and what to buy and where from to rebuild my engine?
Thanks in advance to all

You can get the templates from racingbeat or mazdatrix, in the 2nd gen archive there is a whole thread dedicated to n/a rebuild, I think a rebuild ran along the lines of $580 for an non-turbo engine.

Hey guys, I know this was alreday dicuss but I came accross mixed opinions. I am considering not to port my engine beacuse of reliability issues, I'll like to keep my car as stock as I can, any opinion i highly aprreciated about portinig it or not.

i've never had any relability problems with porting engines.

it's all in how you take care of them.

porting generally will not give you any reliablity issues. just run some quality oil and take good care of her. what kind of porting are you looking to do? if your thinking of keeping the engine mostly stock, but you still want to port, a mild streetport might be best in your case, as it won't destroy your low-end response. certain types of porting, like bridgeporting, are best done on race engines that constantly run at high rpms, and would not be good on a daily driver/street car. mazdatrix has some good info on this, plus they sell porting templates. as far as reliability goes, you shouldnt really have a problem-just make sure not to hit the water seal!

the 3rd pic over is an aux. bridge from a 6-port motor. retains all the low end of stock, with an extra kick up top.

bridgeporting, in itself, won't give any reliability issues--myself and a few friends all commuted with them, but they do tend to use more gas, and they've got their own quarks in the tuning department. in the n/a's, you'll lose some low end if you bridge the secondaries, but you really don't notice much loss (if any) in a turbo car, because the turbo spools up faster. it more or less kinda balances out in a turbo car.

If gain in power is not significant and gas usage increase, what is the advantage of porting a turbo engine. Sorry I just want to know what to do I am goin to put my engine together this weekend. If I do the porting I'll like a mild job.

the gain in power IS significant if the supporting mods are done--like 20-30% for the same boost level.

if you're using the stock computer with relatively few fuel mods, then you've got the right idea with a small conservative port. just a little extra nudge more or less.
