help QUIET my exhaust
Ok, so i have the following mods on my car....
13B NA S4 Streetported, with the Exhaust Diffusers Ground out.
Racing Beat Headers (Not True Dual)
Racing Beat Presilencer
Corksport Stainless Steel Catback
I've already got my first ticket for the summer for excessive noise, and i can only imagine how many more i will get if i don't quiet her down...
Please help me with any suggestions that you might have...Thanks in advance.
My thoughts: I was thinking that maybe where the front section of the catback is, I can cut and weld in a small walker (joe schmo) muffler..any thoughts?
Jahan
PS> Pic to help us all visualize...the prize! ok that was just corny.....

a corksport is going to be loud on any N/A, and probally even moreso with tickets and such. i used to have almost the same setup, i had the downpipe instead of the header, the presilenser, and a corksport. i ended up ditching it and getting a set of RB mufflers and a y-pipe

I wish i could tell you how much I would like to get the RB catback, but because of the great big difference in price of the RB and CS, I had to settle with the CS....sigh. Anyone have any advice?

I was considering the Bullet type mufflers, and i was definetely worried about the fiberglassed packed ones...
But, will the bullet significantly reduce the noise you think? Any one have any experience with the bullet?
Thanks again...Jahan

I have a Rotary Performance catback setup (not installed yet) and I have been re-assured that it is quieter than a Corksport, but still maintains a deep throaty tone. Much more affordable than the RB catback. All in all, I have the RB merged header, a Bonez high flow cat, and the RP catback and had it all delivered as 1 order for $904. Installation and pics will be coming in the next month or so. I have to match port the intake manifolds and ditch the exhaust diffusers.

actually i only ended up laying out $359 for the RB catback. the math? $289 for the corksport, $270 for a pair of RB mufflers, and a friend gave me $200 + the old Y-pipe off his 87 TII, so net i only spent $359. probally a good thing too cause it was starting to get old for me...

It's a very heavy exhaust for what it is (look at its construction, have you seen it off the car?)
Another note, a Borla XR-1 works well for the Corksport turboback exhaust, the problem is the entire lack of a muffler that the system has. You want more for an NA in the muffling department. I heard a XR-1 +RB presilencer (the big ones) and it barely did anything.
I suggest the Borla cat-back, it makes good power and weighs 11lbs more then the Corksport exhaust.

i have seen a flap system on the market with a lever that partially blocks the exhaust and reduces both emmisions and noise, these are used on some cars from factory including bmw( in the uk anyway, although on bmw it is controlled by the ecu) the idea is that you fit a round flap slightly smaller than the bore of the exhaust in the pipe near a joint that you can manually open and close to yor own reqiurements. the idea is that at idle and lower revs you can shut of the exhaust, this will reduce the gasses comming out of the system and have the combined affect of helping with emmisions at mot and when tootaling around town keep the noise down.

Header wrap and a muffler silencer might drop your exhaust note a few decibels. You could take it to a local shop and have them make you a custom exhaust with a couple inline dynomax/magnaflows. Then sell your CS catback to recover some of the loss.

You have to change your catback dude if you want to keep the header. I was in a very similar situation. I had RB collected header, RB presilencer, and Apexi N1 duals when I bought the car. The car was sooooooo ******* loud... it gave me headaches. It resonated so bad I was getting a back message at highway speeds.
I tried a couple things to quiet it down and still keep the catback. First I replaced the RB presilencer with a cat. That helped significantly. It didn't resonate so bad on the highway, but it still droned really bad. I drove the car like that for maybe 6 months, but finally I was dating this girl who really got bothered by the noise. So I went to muffler shop and had them install a restrictive resonator type of thing, the kind that constricts flow down to like a 1.25" bend inside. It quieted the car down a lot. It pretty much did the trick--except it killed my power.
I drove the car like that for maybe two months. Then the girl and I broke up and I realized that I wanted my power back--I missed the kick in the *** I used to get up top. Finally I just said **** it and bought a used RB 2.5" catback. I changed the catback and replaced the cat and resonator with a straight midpipe.
Suddenly the car got all its juice back. I went back on the dyno and it turns out that I had lost 25(!) horsepower from all that bullshit I had put in trying to quiet down the N1's, and the RB catback was actually quieter and smoother AND made more power.
Lesson learned: if you want to keep a header, don't use a really loud catback. I'd say dual N1's are equivalent to a corksport in loudness. Sell your catback and get something else.

$270 for a set of used ones. i really don't see the problem with used ones as new ones will be used as soon as you put them on anyway. only problem i see with used ones is they aren't always avilable

Why don't you try an Apexi ECV unit, http://www.apexi-usa.com/product_exh...=251&pageNum=1
