HELP A proud new 91 RX-7 owner

I have a 91 RX-7 N/A. My problem is that when it is warming up it does not rev over two grand. If I shut the car off and turn it back on it corrects the problem. It only does it sometimes. I was also wondering what the best intake exhaust combo for the greatest horsepower gains. I also heard you need to change the injectors if you change the exhaust is this true?

Welcome to the club!

I need some clarification on your question:
Are you talking about the cold start assist? Or are you talking about after you started your car and driving it wont get past 2k. Personally Im still looking into exhaust options right now but plan on ordering the templates for attomicas custom cold air box. I am pretty sure you dont need to change the injectors unless they are not working correctly or you heavily mod it.

By the way I just bought a 91 NA with 72k last week. Congratulations

The inj. do not have to be changed, just for exhaust and intake. The NA runs pretty rich ro begin with, now for the wont rev past 2k problem im not sure, the only thing i can think of is maybe you have a problem that occurs when it is cold and it puts the ECU in limp mode.If it revs to 3k and stays there for a minute, thats the cold start assist, its emission B.S. to help warm the cats.Do a search on C.S.A. and you will find out how to remove the 3k startup.

Congrats and welcome.

When the car is cold, you shouldnt be revving it past 3000 anyway It sounds like it might be in limp mode though... rather odd...

Ummm... do this... go to http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/codes.html

Run that code scan and see what you get. If there's a limp mode, there's something causing it.

With regards to the intake, your choices for GOOD intakes are limited to K&N and an Apexi Power Filter. Unfortunately, most others i've seen are crap, except for the RAMFX, and the PiperCross systems, but they are quite rare/nonexistant for fc's

good luck

i had the same problem with my rx-7 check where the secondary injector wires are, sometimes theyre lose causing it to sputter or die at around 3,000 rpms, or maybe one of your ground wires are disconnected

Sounds like the ECU isn't recieving a signal from a sensor and it's running in limp mode (fail safe).

Check the ECU codes as mentioned above and post the results. It only takes a few minutes.
