Help with Pressure Plate Install

I have a quick question. I'm installing an AL flywheel with ACT pressure plate on a '90 6-port. I bought the set used from another member with very low miles.

The set I bought came with spacers for the bolts. However the spacer seems to have some free play when the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate are meshed. Should the spacer be bigger longer? I want to make sure I'm setting it up right. The stock unit of course sat completely flush. When the setup is completely flush and the bolts are to be tightened, the spacers aren't flush.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get the engine back in the car this week.

get a picture of the spacers when it is tightened down so we can see what you mean. there will be about that much slop in the bolts before they are tightened.

i'm not a huge fan of AL flywheels by the way, for this reason.

lemms see..
Did you take the SIX bolts and look at them?//..I think there are 3 that are longer than the other threee.and Maybe what you are doing is putting them in the wrong holes on the flywheel ,when you put the Presuure plate on.The longer ones will bottom out and leave some bolt that can't be Tightened in..while the other ones will seem to Fit OK.
I had that Problem on one of my Clutch installs.
maybe that is your spacer Problem,in a Nutshell.

Check to see if you have longer bolts, and if they are in the right position on the fly wheel.

The holes on the flywheel are all the way through and the bolts are secured with a nut. There really isn't a way to have them bottom out anyway. The flywheel holes aren't tapped, just complete holes for the bolt to go through and be secured from the other side. In the picture the flywheel is resting against the clutch disk which is against the surface of the flywheel. I'll put it on fully and tighten it up when I get home this evening and take another pic.

looking at that pic again..why is it that there is a 'raise' in the flywheel,to the left of that Bolt you have connecting the pressure plate onto the Flywheel.....
and to me,that looks like the Distance you are OUT at the spacer.
also..you stated that you bought it off another member. Why not Pm him and ask him How he installed it?

I did PM him already.

The pressure plate is flush against the clutch disk which is flush against the flywheel. The spacer just seems like it isn't long enough. Would it matter as long as I torque the nut/bolt to the right spec?

jfc... you have to tighten the bolts for the clutch to actually "grip" the flywheel. all i simply asked for was a pic to see what he was talking about as far as the spacers "not sitting flush when tightened down".

in all seriousness i don't think there is a damn thing wrong with the setup, just tighten the damn bolts down already and quit worrying about it..

I may just be paranoid. I laughed when I read that last reply.
