Help with porting TII engine

I have driven my 91 vert RX-7 since I was 16 (only 17 now) and I love it. I bought an 88 TII as a car for me to work on because I love the raotary engine.

With the TII my goal was to pull it from the car, rebuild it and port it. I wanted to finish it with intake and exhaust mods. I have only to unhook the wiring harness and transmission before the engine is free from the body. I just called Racing Beat and asked them about porting a TII and the guy said it cannot be done. WHAT?? Is this true?

Can I port an 88 TII, or does it mess up the turbo and computer systms? I was told that porting it would actually lower the hp because it changed the flow characteristics of the enigine and make the turbo less useful.

Any help is greatly appreciated, also, if it is possible, who do I send the engine to for porting?

Thanks from the 88 TII and 91 vert

There are plenty of people running ported turbo engines. Maybe you should call them back and get a reason why they think you can't port an engine.

TII engine

The guy at racing beat said that porting the engine would change the intake and exhaust flow characteristics so that they didn't match up with the turbo. I was stunned and didn't believe him, so I turned to the forum.

Can you give me someones name who has a ported TII so I can ask them where they had it ported? Or do you know of a place to have it ported?

Thanks

there is no point porting a motor if you plan on putting the stock restircter (i mean turbo) back onto it. they are too small and choke the exhaust flow.

Also there is no point porting the motor if you are gonna run it with the factory computer, the factory computer is ment to run a stock motor with the stock ports and the stock turbo.

If however you have plans for a new engine management system, a T04 turbo or similar then go ahead and port away

hey Kris, you can send the side housings to any one of the rebuilders (atkins, KD, RP, etc) to get them ported, of course you can port a TII. dont listen to that ****

i really cant see why the porting would help you much unless you went to a bigger turbo, it would probably give you the same effect as pumping the boost up 2-3 pounds. plus it makes your idle go to ****, so i would probably hold off on it.

This is just my thinking, but ill take you to Ben (the rotary god) and he'll give you his opinion.

Isnt this weird?..My previous TII motor had 3mm seals and streetport and it was very strong with stock turbos. When i called Mazdatrix to have my motor ported they said they wouldnt do it because it would not make any difference. I was also stunned to what the dude just told me. Right then i hanged up the phone.

The only type of porting you cant do to a turbo motor is a Bridge or bigger (j-port).

I will be streetporting my motor since im going full turbo upgrade with engine management. ***cant wait***

ERMM WRONG, you can have any port on a turbo motor which you can have on a n/a motor. anyone who says you can't just doesn't have the know how to do it.
