Unhappy help please trying to get heat shield off to fix leak

i was just wondering what some good methods for taking off the heat shield of the turbo would be. i did a search but i diddnt find any ways they used for accually taking it off. should i use some sort of prying? or maybe i should cut it. let me know please

please dont be SO alarmed...i will be making another heat shield. is 12gauge sheet aluminum ok?

if i remember correctly it was a PITA to get mine off. i had to remove a bunch of stuff and i had to pry it a few times to semi bend it in the shape that i needed to get it to clear everything. all i remember is putting it back in was very easy .. i would love to help you out more but my engine isnt here. but i wouldnt cut it . but there are like 3-4 10 mm bolts that hold it on . and i used a screw driver (flat) to gently pry the 2 sides away from each other. then i had to get under the car and take off the other bolts. although the bottom one was so rusted it snapped with no real pressure. then i think i bent it up a little, and took off the DP . i think that was what i did. and with the DP gone you should have enough room to drop it out the bottom

Rip it off. But when you make your new shield, don't use aluminium. Use stainless steel. Aluminium won't last very long.

i have a quick question.......do i have to worry about that hard line that has coolent in it?
it seems to be rubbing up against the shield as i am tearing it out. anything thoughts?

also can i wrap the turbo in aluminum sheet metal ? or will it melt?

I dont think you can put enough force pulling out the shield to damage the coolant line as it is pretty thick and sturdy. I think aluminum may retain too much heat and warp after time and you'll probably get rattling too.

I've been running without the stock heatshield for probably about a year and no bad effects except the engine bay feels hotter but all my wiring is ok, but that might be because I rewrapped the whole thing.
