!!!!HELP!!!!overboosting bad...real bad!!!!

ok i got my T2 to run pretty good today. i was driving it around my neigborhood(my house is out in the sticks, my neighborhood is really open) and when it warmed up a good bit, i startedto acelerate hard. 1st gear wqas normal as was 2nd gear, but when i put it to the floor in 3rd, pulled up to about 16psi, and when i put it into 4th and laid into it, it made 20psi before i could let out. what gives? why is it doing this? is my wastegate not opening? i have an 89 motor in my T2 and the 89 turbo as well, so i knew itwould make moe boost than my 87 turbo and motor did, but not 20psi. i know it shoudnt make that much. any ideas as to what would cause this? i know its not supposed to make that much boost.

Did you check to see if the vacuum line came off of the wastegate? I can't really think of anything else that would cause such a high boost spike.

The 1989-1991 Kouki FC's run a solenoid that bleeds off boost.&nbsp Your 1987 chassis does not have the means to control this solenoid.&nbsp It looks like the default is full open on the solenoid.

Check the front side of the turbo, right by the TID duct.&nbsp You'll see the vacuum line running from the top of the turbo compressor outlet, down and around the compressor housing, into a T, then down to the wastegate actuator.&nbsp BYPASS THE T and run a vacuum line from the top fitting straight to the wastegate actuator.&nbsp This should solve the boost problem...

see above and run a short line straight from the turbo to the wastegate.

but considering it's normal in 1st and 2nd it could very well be creep. my friend hit 18psi once with just a racing beat exhaust and hks filter on his 90t2. and could hit 15 very easy after adding the exhaust. his motor blew a few weeks later

thanks for the advice guys, im going to try bypassing that "T" on the compressor housing. im also going to test the compression on the motor as soon as i get a chance, just t see if i damaged the motor. keep your fingers crossed for me.

well his blew becuase he contined to do it, and had stock fuel system. if it still runs fine now I'm sure you didn't do anything bad to it. his blew under boost while driving.

honestly the 20 psi i made felt just like the 13psi i expected to make. i think its because with a stock turbo and stock intercooler, all i did was force 20 psi of really hot air into the engine. 20psi from a stock turbo trying to cool through a stock top-mount would be so damn hot the motor couldn make power with it if it wanted to. i think it wasnt too harmful to the motor, granted im sure it didnt help it either, but with my fuel setup, im running stupid rich. so i think i am pretty safe as far as that much boost. i didnt hear the motor detonate or anything so im sure the motor is fine, but i want to check it to make sure.
