Help! No Pulse....
Went out for breakfast this morning and gave the car a bit of a workout to the restaurant ( nothing that hasnt been done before). When i got back in the car there was a rather strong gas smell, got home and took out the Haynes to just double check location of PD. It said that when the car is on and idleing you should feel a pulse, i couldnt feel any pulse coming off of the thing ( with the vibration of the engine idleing should i be able to distinguish between the vibration and this pulse.
There is definatley a pretty strong smell of gas under the hood but upon visual inspection of the PD it is not leaking and dry as a whistle from what i can see. I have never closely inspected the PD as a just recently got the car but i assumed it was a flexible rubber, mine feels like it is hard plastic, is this actually what it is???
help, i dont want my car catching fire!!!!
im off to the search function and some research although i have read pretty much all the post concerning the PD already.

The Hard plastic is the cover ober the metal part. The rubber part is on the inside of this metal part. Try taking off the plastic. If the screw comes out or is already out it needs replacing. When my PD was leaking way back I could see a small pool of gasoline. The PD also showed signs of dripping and smearing of the gasoline on the cap/plastic peice. I would say either get a enw PD or get a banjo bolt. I have a banjo bolt.

Jumper the fuel pump test plug, turn the ignition on and visually inspect for fuel leaks with a torch. No flames or sparks obviously...
Check all the hoses to and from the charcoal canister too. If these fail or fall off you'll get vapours from the tank.

In the jpgs I tried to show how it's put together. The screw falling out will not by itself cause fuel to pour out the hole the screw was in. That hole is a deadender. Its the failure of the diaphram in the picture that allows fuel to go out the screw hole. See the distorted black diaphram?? Cheap thing couldn't withstand a small fire. Melted. The plastic cap serves one purpose in life....to catch the screw when it vibrates out. the screw itself moves when the diaphram vibrates/moves ahh that's enough for tonight.
