Help with my timing...and my crappy drawing.
Help with my timing...and my crappy drawing.
OK, So I need to make sure that Im advancing my timing and not retarding it. The drawing is supposed to be looking in to my CAS at TDC. I need to know if the CAS housing goes with the red or green arrow.
obviously I didnt draw all the teeth on there, but you get the idea...thanks in advance.

Well, which way was it for future reference for our veiwers... plus i have no idea what the hell you are talking about. I mean, i understand thats the top veiw of the CAS with the top cover off, but... what the hell were you asking again?
Wait! Can we get a second opinion here?
I was told that the green arrow (on the top) was advancing, and the red was retarding! I guess I do need more input here! Anyone else have any input??

One reason why some people get confused is that the bolt is stationary and the Cas reference mount moves. For example, this is opposite to how alternators etc. move in which case the bolt(part of alternator) moves along the stationary mount. The mount is part of the Cas and moves along a stationary bolt.
So, if the bolt is in the green, timing is advanced. If the bolt is in the red, timing is retarded.
Timing advance increases idle.
Timing retard decreases idle.
Hailers explained the clockwise/counter correctly. When turning the Cas, do not look at the bolt or Cas. You should be watching the pulley with your timing gun. And you should also check/adjust/recheck idle & timing with each timing & idle change.
