help.. my fuel pulsation dampener broke
help.. my fuel pulsation dampener broke
SO after getting my car fixed... and running JUST HOW I WANT IT... the damn pulsation dampener sprung a leak 14 miles away from home.. got it back here via driving it... i know bad idea...i had no choice...i need to know how much fixing this is going to cost me in estimated terms...
i know this is going to take removing the upper intake manifold... and getting some kinda banjo bolt.... if there's another way please tell me.. im semi skilled with these engines... but not to the point where i feel safe taking off the whole upper intake.
you've all been a great help and patent with me in the past and i thank you for that.
any help would be greatly appreciated

S4 ... yea ...
you answered your question already, either banjo it or buy a new one.
no other way around.

Im going to replace mine on my upcoming rebuild, even tho there are no signs of leaking & its much less common on S5, I just don't feel like risking it.

Wow. A bit of a mountain out of a mole hill.
1. New pulsation Damper from dealer or other supplier. You should get a new copper crush washer with it, although you could probably re-use the existing since they're so soft.
2. 12mm wrency or socket, remove upper intake. (be sure and cover the intake holes so you don't drop something into them).
3. twist off old damper.
4. put washer on new damper, twist on and tighten.
5. Put intake back on.
6. Don't EVER drive you car again when you know the damper is leaking!!!!!!!!! Cost of a tow truck is much cheaper than cost to repair an engine fire.

Soo i was driving today and i noticed fuel around my secondary injector(the one closest to the Pulsation damper). I know that that has to do with fires sometimes...i just replaced the injectors with new ones a few months ago, maybe summer time. Do you think they are loose and thats why there is fuel present? Also should i be looking into goin ahead and replacing that damper or doing the banjo bolt just to be safe?

jump your fuel check connector and turn your key to on. see if you can spot where the fuel is leaking. i don't want to start a flame war here, so just do some searching on the PD vs/ banjo bolt debate. i will mention that the banjo bolt is a LOT cheaper.
They last 100k miles, they're not incredibly expensive ($100 per 100k... $0.001 per mile), so just replace it. While not absolutely essential they're in ALL fuel injected vehicles for a little better mpg, performance and safety net against detonation. You'll get multiple times your money back in gas alone, even if you only saved 0.1mpg. You'll still have some safety net left even after a banjo but it'll be that much less if something else goes wrong or if you want to push the limits when tuning.
Ya I'm sure the parts you need are listed in the FSM. IIRC you have to remove the upper intake manifold so you need a gasket or whatever it's called for that too.

You might have partially torn one of th O rings when you put in your injectors, and it might have finally come fully apart allowing gas to escape. A dose of lubricant on anything rubber going into a hole is smart to use when installing injectors. (Worded that way on purpose for all you beligerants
)If you've never replaced the Pulsation Damper, do yourself a favor and replace it now unless you're a fan of engine fires.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the banjo bolt alternative. There was a reason Mazda Engineers used a Damper instead of that bolt.
