hey i'm in the middle of replacing my fuel pump filter/sock thing, i'm not sure the technical name of it, but anyway I have the pump out and everything, but i can't figure out how to get that filter at the bottom off. by the way i have an 87gxl. thanks

 

Take the pump off the assembly, the filter should just pull off.

 

I call it the "in-tank fuel filter" or "fuel (pump) pre-filter" or "low pressure fuel filter".

On some models it is a tight slip fit into a rubber grommet on the pump.
On other models, it is held by a phillips screw.
