1. Read the faq and stickies (as it will answer those questions)
2. Learn how to talk on a forum (though it is already stated, see above #1), as most won't bother even reading with a topic title like that.

Which RX-7 do you have? Is it na or Turbo? Is it auto or manual?

If its NA, t2 swap as it's not suggested to turbo an NA but it can and has been done.

If it's auto do a 5 speed swap (im not one to talk on that as mine is still auto because the girl has to use it)

4k for an REW swap in an FC? VERY tight budget huh... i suggest you dont do budget shortcuts there. you're gonna need a transmission for that too.

If your doing a lot of drag racing, u might want a 13bt setup to start with. I would consider a v8 too.It wil be hard to hit that much hp NA, and you would need to lighten out hte car a lot

The only option there to get your 280HP is the REW. It can be done NA, but takes porting you're probably not prepared to do. You won't get anywhere near that with the bolt-on Camden supercharger. Or you could just do a standard TII swap with basic upgrades...

Check out a jdm junkyard called YLM right near irwindale like 5 blocks or so. They got cheap turbo fc front clips for 1500, that is if you decide to go with the 13bt. Theyll start them up for you and everything, probably need a rebuild in the near future though. The numbers they gave me for compression tests wernt bad but wernt great either. If you got a 13brew available though might as well put up the extra money and go that way.

Go turbo.

Doing the p-port with ITB's will be loud, you won't be that streetable, and you'll spend alot of money.

Buy a motor within series and swap it over with the driveline and do basic bolt ons. You'll have the potential to make more power in the future and you won't have a headache. Plus you have a bloated Vert, you'll have 280HP NA HP and what, 170lbs of torque? Having fun running mid 14's all day after spending 10k. You'll need torque to actually move the convertable. So turbo is the only option IMHO.

****, you can pretty well do 280 with a stock TII. Well, almost.

I think everyone in this thread just likes to say p-port and ITB.

****, for the cost of that setup you could have a 400hp turbo engine!

Assess your goals and budget before going any further.

+1.

It's funny, nearly all the people that say that own a turbo RX-7. Even one says 13BT power.

For 4k, the OP cannot build a successful PP for 4,000. Considering alot of the work would have to be farmed out.

really the only way to get 280hp out an n/a is with a VERY aggressive Bridge port or a P-port like has been said. The power isn't in the ITB's, it's in the port. In fact, ITB's even on a stock port would be hard to drive, the throttle body design on the 7 has a lot to do with it's streetability. a port that would make that kind of power would idle at 2k, have no power and buck under 4k, and sound like a banshee from there. To spin at the rpm required you'd have to have hardened stationary gears, a balanced rotating assembly, window bearings, and if it's a P-port, modified rotor housings and an intake.

Yes and no. There's a local (actually a couple) running a HBP and he's been on carb for a year. He's going to ITB's now and we expect to see some respectable gains from the ITB's alone.

Granted we're moving from carb to EFI at the same time, but nonetheless, more accurate airflow and fuel delivery will make power. But you have to have the port in the first place.

Not true, it all depends on the engine builder\tuner....

I'd sell the 'vert and buy a TII with the money added to that $4k to buy a used TII with a rebuilt motor from the forums. I've seen a lot of them going for $3,500-5,000 over the last year. Then, use whatever is left over to get it up to "drift spec" (i.e. coilovers, bolt on's, exhaust, etc...). Swapping out a motor is a lot of work!

Steetable is subjective, but from what I can gather is that you have some weak *** power until like ten million RPMs.

But either way, the OP can't do it for 4k.

Yup us puerto ricans have secrets on that kinda ****- Im a newb, but Ive seen **** done crazy and heard about it. People claim that bridge and p-ports cannot be driven on the street due to drivability. Sure, gas prices are gonna suck, but its very possible to make them streetable. And from what Ive seen the best rotary tuners/builders out there aren't on these forums. I know one guy whi has a bridgeported 13b with fuel injection. It spins to 14k and is quiter than my car (reacing beat header to bonez cat to corksport catback). He's also making aorund 270 hp (not sure if thats to the wheels or flywheel though) and he switches it with his camry as a daily driver to and from work, which isnt too close to home.

Oh yea- and to the original poster (I already said it before) just go tubo- itll be so much easier than trying to make thqat kinda power with the n/a motor.

You can drive a 4 rotor race car on the street if you like (search youtube ) but are MOST people going to be able to do with it what MOST street cars do regularly? Like go through a drive through? Sit at a loooooong stop light beside a young cop? Fire up on the first crank in cold? hot?

To say that its streetable is "true". But not very likely. There's a very small small percentage of people of people who can ACTUALLY do it. Entertaining the idea to the large majority of people is fun, but most will never be able to/want to/afford to or know how.

Its a silly recomendation.......for most.
