I soppose if i found a really cheap NA when i was searching for cars i might look at it if it was in good condition but I think ill stick with the Volvo or CRX. And go-karts kick *** anyway so i wont have a problem with it being small. I'll have a hard time staying way from the mods but I think I can hold off. And if I do dont worry I wont turn it into a bowl of rice on wheels.

1. 740s are also RWD. Most Volvos were RWD until the 850 came out.

2. 740 Turbos with the B23FT have a lot of potential but I've seen people spend the GDP of Uraguay getting there.

3. Volvos are very safe cars. So are BMWs. That pancaked one probably hit a lot harder than the RX - the construction and materials is similar.

4. Volvos actually handle pretty well. If you get a Volvo, get an IPD catalog.

5. You could always get a 240 now and swap in a V8 later. If you get a 240 get the DOHC engine, barely more power but more potential.

6. Don't get a civic if safety is a big concern. They're not bad, but nowhere near the class of a 240. F=MV^2.

The only passenger car I know of to beat the 240 in the early 90s for safety ratings was the Stealth/3000GT turbo. 4000lbs of steel around a small cockpit is like being in a tank.

I'm 16 and I have a TII. No problems with it yet. They are not as high maintanance as what everyone will tell you. My insurance is $300 a year. All of the people telling you that an FC is not a good first car just don't want you to have the same car as them because they didn't have such an awsome car when they were 16. Driving an FC does not require that you mash the gas pedal. You can use it at varying levels you know? I asked the same question that you just did when I was 14 and got the same response. The people responding to your thread here saying that it will not make a good first car either A. don't know ****. or B. want to scare you away from having the same car as them.

Get an FC and have fun. Drive it safely and show all of these ******** that it makes a damn great first car. Even a TII!

I bought my car when I was 17. Sure its an N/a but that don't make much of a difference. I don't know how your pulling off the 300 dollars a year crap. even now it would cost me well over 1k dollars to unsure my N/a for one year. and I am 19 now. The FC is a safe car. BUT the speed in it is addicting and is what causes most car crashes. If you look at statistics it is males under the age of 18 that cause a lot of accidents. He is better off learning to drive properly in a less powerfull car so if he does get into an accident he won't be going as fast. This is MY second car. I haven't fucked it up. But my first car I did **** up. not much but I could have slammed into a NEW escallade if my tires weren't good in the wet. I don't think I would like to have seen my FC in the *** of an SUV. Owning a sports car also brings a responsability to the driver. I personally messed up once and taunted my friend to race with me on public streets. This resulted in him crashing his car into an airport fence. It cost him 1500 dollars to repair it. It could have easily cost him or me our lives. The point isn't for him to NOT have a great car. The point is for him to ease into driving and work his way up. That way he doesn't hurt himself or others.

Buy the RX.

If you kill yourself, it's OK, it's just Natural Selection in action.

(Just don't kill anyone else, that's either manslaughter or murder, neither of which is OK)

IMHO driving experience and road manners will determine wether or not an FC is right for a person.

Giving a sports car to a person that just got his/her permit may not be the wisest choice.

I have seen some sports cars wrecked/abused/confiscated by people in my highschool
ie:
- eclipse, engine blown from abuse
- z car, wrecked while taking a s-turn at 70 mph
- integra, wrecked while racing

However, how you drive is also important.

If you constantly cut ppl off while going 100+ mph on the street, try to pull of an "initial-d" in a neighborhood corner, over-rev before the engines warmed, etc, then you are not ready for an FC or a sports car for that matter.

Also, if you should get an FC, be ready to pay for unexpected expenses. They are 15+ year old sports cars, something WILL break sooner or later.

However, if you are committed to not drive like a maniac on the public street and are financially ready, by all means, get an FC.

But this is coming from a person with a similiar situation as yours, so dont take my word for it
