Help! Low idle, smoke on startup

Ok, so I bought this car last week as a project car and it looks like it's going to be one. The first couple days I owned it I had no problems, it always took a little while to start but no big deal, just a couple seconds of revving then it would start right up and go to 3 grand then drop to about 1200 like it's supposed to. Now when I drive it on the freeway and let it sit it seems to smoke the more it sits. So if I let it sit for a day it smokes some, but I let it sit for 5 while I was out of town on business and it smoked a ton.

The smoke is white and it smells like exhaust/gas. Everyone says that coolant has a "sweet" smell and I don't know what that means but someone told me if it's coolant you'll know that it definitely smells different, and I don't think it's that. I also don't have over heating issues and it doesn't smoke once it gets done smoking at the beginning.

Now the check engine light has been flickering every now and then, today a lot more than it was previously. Also the engine would go from idling fine to being bogged down at like 400rpms all of a sudden. I checked the code and it said it was the MAP sensor, I haven't had a chance to check the MAP yet since "daylight savings" has killed daylight when i get off of work.

Anyway, has anyone had this problem before? I could see the MAP sensor killing the idle and making it delay the startup a bit due to dumping it with fuel but all the smoke? I've read around the forums and saw that if it runs rich it might make seals leak and while the motor isn't running, but I don't know if it would make it smoke this badly.

Any thoughts? Thanks for takin the time to read all of this I appreciate it.

Also I've heard of people using a GM map sensor, but can't really find anything on it. Yes I've tried searching the forums but can't find anything except threads about cars with giant turbos that don't explain anything.
