Does it just hesitate or does it feel like you've run into a brick wall?

^ what he said.

If its a brick wall, sounds most likly like fuel cut. The stock ecu cuts fuel to the rear rotor when boost exceeds something like 6psi...this can be fixed by buying a FCD, or porting your turbo wastegate hole.

If its more like a hesitation, the only thing i can think of is to check all your grounds.

Also, its probibly not this, but how much fuel did you have in the tank? when i run less than a 1/4 full, i get hesitations all through the power band. I guess the stock gas tank has werid baffles in it where fuel can get stuck, and when you go around a turn, or just accel fast, the G's move the gas out of the way of the pick up. Idk, somthing to look into.

Good luck.

DO NOT under any circumstances even remotely consider putting a FCD on the car unless you have done the proper fuel mods. If the car is stock, you definately don't need one. If you are hitting fuel cut, you probably have a disconnected hose leading to your waste gate actuator.

if you encounter a 1986-87 RX-7 vehicle with a surge or stumble during acceleration at more than 2500 rpm, this may be due to an improper ground between the emission control unit and the air flow meter. Test for the symptom according to the procedure shown in this Service Bulletin. (Refer to Service Bulletin Category 4, No. 036/87.)

The ground circuit of the emission control unit has been improved since November 1, 1986.

VIN OF PRODUCTION CHANGE

CHECKING PROCEDURE

Use an ohmmeter to check the resistance between the 2C terminal of the emission control unit and the boost sensor/(pressure sensor) ground terminal (BrB). If the resistance is not 0, proceed to the next step.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Connect the ground wire (BrB) of the boost sensor/(pressure sensor) and the bolt of the water filler neck with an additional wire as shown.

NOTE:
Do not ground the ground wire (BrB) of the boost sensor/(pressure sensor) to the body panel. For correct operation, ground the wire as shown.

2. Use electrical tape or tie-wrap to attach the additional wire to the engine harness.

Category Applicable Model/s Subject Bulletin No. 039/88
4 1987-1988 ROUGH IDLE OR STALL Issued 2/2/88
RX-7 Turbo AFTER COLD START Revised

DESCRIPTION

If you encounter a vehicle with a rough idle or stall after cold start, this may be due to air leakage of the anti-afterburn valve located in air control valve. Test for this problem according to the procedure shown in this bulletin.
PARTS INFORMATION

PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION

N332 13 990 Air Control Valve

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. Start the cold engine and run it at idle.
2. Disconnect the air hose (air pump to air control valve) at the air pump.
3. Place a finger over the air hose opening.
4. Replace die air control valve, if air is sucked into the air hose at idle.
